PUTRAJAYA, July 8 — Former Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said today the scrapping of the policy on the teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics in English was not an easy decision.
Hishammuddin, who is now the Home Minister, said the decision, however, was supported by the majority who saw it as most appropriate based on studies which saw less than encouraging examination results among students.
“It was not an easy decision and it is impossible to satisfy everyone,” he told a news conference after chairing a post-cabinet meeting at his ministry today.
The government today decided to revert the teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics to the Malay language, effective 2012.
Hishammuddin said all quarters should accept the decision with an open heart as it had gone through a comprehensive process, from roundtable discussions to obtaining feedback at the grassroots level.
“I would also like to congratulate Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is Education Minister for putting forward a convincing argument on the matter based on facts,” he said.
He said the decision was made after a sufficient time was given to interact with all the interested parties. – Bernama

How about if you have children who are affected?
And who's that dumb guy (on TV) who said why wait three years to switch? Is he on drugs?
Losing faith in the education system is an understatement. Every step taken is going backwards.
God save us all.

Minister!! There is no way to learn english indirectly. Some of the policies promoted by TDM are certainly not right. . . at this rate it will take the students another 100years to learn english. and by then the world might be talking a new language.

1. Health Hazard School Bags - Do something to reduce the daily book load. But please dont just do the Photo Op thingie at some school where they'll spend thousands for your visit (and child labour to clean up the compund) - just as they did to a Bibir Merah Education Minister many years ago at mychilds school. No action after that, but he got promoted, and my youngest child is suffering just as her eldest brother did.
2. Teacher absentiism. Teachers attendance at class, which is not the same as teachers attendance at school. If teachers attended and taught in classes, instead of hanging out in staff rooms and canteens and attending the infamous kursus, maybe the standard of Maths and Science ( and every other subject) would be much higher. If we are honest about it, we will admit that our biggest problem is the quality and dedication of our teachers, and not the medium of instruction.
3. Religion in the school. Keep religious activities and rituals to the minimum and only during religious classes. Not only is it taking up valuable time allocated for academic lessons, it is definitely working against a 1Malaysia mindset.
4. Teacher employment - employ teachers from all communities, and you will get a resurgence of the government school.
These are simple observations which I think, every parent with school going kids has made and will agree with me on. What will it take our Pedagogists and policy makers to bring about the change that is so obviously needed?

Krishammudin, don't do this Monday morning quarterback thingy la, just admit it, you had the chance to do the right thing but you flopped it.
Anyway, you had taken charge of several ministrial offices, you had accomplished nothing. No kidding, a clean sheet.
A clean sheet for a goal keeper is good, a clean sheet for a striker meaning this striker is about to be hanged out to dry.
Battle-crying and wielding weapon in general assembly is so archaic, you need to get on and do some real business. But that will be too demanding on you, won't it?

Hisham ,
Not a difficult decions to make but because you lack of knowledge so simply cannot make "RIGHT" decision due to many of your short-coming, you are only good at warning peoples here and there when peoples speak the truth which you awlays feel hurt due to your 'Inferior Complex" pretend to protect the Malays but actually you are destroying Malay future. If not why you sent your childrens to Australia if you think your descision is correct ???
Most of UMNO decision is politically-motivated not for Rakyat future.

Those who want to be monolingual for whatever reasons please dont deny those who want to be multilingual.
Open up opportunities for English medium schools to be established in the private sector and see parents of all races fighting to have their children enrolled in such schools as just in the better run and managed vernacular schools. Then we see whether the majority wants their children to be monolingual.
Please do not be shocked that all many English teahers will resign and go into private tuition teaching English. The demand for such services would even be greater than ever.

Without proper train teachers to teach the 2 subject what can we expect out from our children, those parents who can afford to send their children to attend tuition can perform well.
Vanucalur school fail to support PPSMI at primary is due to their priority during these 6 years is on their mother language. But this group is for science and maths in English at the secondary school. All must understand that chinese and english is not an easy language to master compare with bahasa malaysia.
With SRJK having 6 years of study maths and science in english, this group will have 6 years ahead of other school in english, maybe one day the rayat will realised SRJK is a better alternative compare to that of vanucalur school by then the government dream of having one stream in our education system will be achieved.

Oh ohhhh, I think you said something wrong here -
In the last six years since implementing English for Science and Maths -
every year when results for UPSR, PMR, SPM and SPTM -
You have announced that the students have done very well.
Every year results were improving -
More top students.
More students have done better in Science and Maths -
Now the turn around -
Studies were done - what studies????
Publish the studies - put it in black and white.
BTW, Hishammuddin - where your children go to school???
Public school,
Private school,
International school????

So now we are admitting that even the teachers, those so-called 'gurus' can't even master one of the most important language of the world? What a joke! What is best is, because our rural students cannot catch up with the language, every student in Malaysia must now be tied to this sandbag and be dragged down together with them. Instead of encouraging the rural students to improve, we are now asking the urban students to retrogress and be at the same standard as rural students. How preposterous!

1) How do these people define nity? Does it need to the minorities to keep quiet and allow themselves to be bullied, insulted, marginalised and discriminated against in order to allow the majorty to "progress' so to speak?
2) what is the content of the course for the camp like?
3) How is this content delivered to the participants and by who?
4) How qualified are these instructors and what are their personal beliefs like?
Until and unless the organisers and sponsors of such camps can give us clear and precise answers to these questions, the camp IS IRRELEVANT and UNECESSARY.
We already have NS and that is enough. In fact the NS camps by themselves have already been proven to be badly managed what more with additional 1Malaysia Camps. The bottom kine is, Tan Sri, you do not need any camp to instil unity. You just need to do away with simple basic, selfishness and dirty political agendas.

Wonder where were you before?
Doing nothig to our country education system, just making lots of fun and pain to our kids like white rats.
No wonder our education system is in real shit.
