We fulfilled most of our promises, BN Manek Urai director claims

KUALA KRAI, July 11 — Manek Urai BN by-election machinery director, Datuk Mustapa Mohamed today stressed that Barisan Nasional (BN) was a party that kept promises it made during elections.

He said allegations that BN did not fulfil promises for development made during the Pengkalan Pasir by-election in December 2005 could easily be refuted by looking at the facts.

“As far as I know we have done what we promised. If not all, we have fulfilled most of our promises such as improving the drainage systems to prevent floods, repairing hundreds of residential homes and a mosque.

“We forked out RM24 million on developing the area after the by-election. The area is better than it was previously. Promises to build a bridge and market (in Pasir Mas) was not made by us,” he told reporters here today.

He was asked to comment on PAS’ claims that BN had failed to carry out the promises it made during the Pengkalan Pasir by-election, which included building a bridge over the railway  track there to avoid traffic congestion in the town as well as a new market.

“Check who made those promises first. We made promises but have carried out most of them. PAS also made promises. The ones to build a market and bridge were not made by BN,” he said, adding that the people of Pengkalan Pasir were still using the old market and faced traffic problems during peak hours. — Bernama
