KUALA KRAI, July 14 – Less than 12 hours before polling begins in this rural constituency, Barisan Nasional (BN) put up banners showing picture of Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat shaking hands with Lee Kuan Yew in an attempt to drive the Malay voters away from the Kelantan Mentri Besar.
The banners showing pictures from the Singapore Minister Mentor’s recent visit to the state were only put up yesterday evening.
It also carries a message in the Kelantanese dialect criticising Nik Aziz for preferring to listen to Lee but not Umno.
“Why does he like him, but refuse to listen to Umno,” reads the message referring to the PAS spiritual adviser meeting with Lee and Nik Aziz continuous rejection to attempts to work closer with Umno.
Nik Aziz has been the strongest critic of the unity government proposal which resulted in attacks from Umno leaders who have been promoting Malay unity.
Another banner ridiculing PAS’s close relationship with DAP was also seen around the Manek Urai constituency where more than 90 per cent of some 12,000 voters are Malays.
According to the information at the bottom of the banner, it was published by the Kelantan BN headquarters.
The Singapore founding father visited Kelantan early last month as part of his one week working visit to Malaysia.
In his meeting with Nik Aziz, Lee reportedly asked the former how PAS would treat its neighbours in particular Singapore if the Islamist party takes over the government.
While Nik Aziz was reported as praising Singapore’s success in eradicating corruption in the city state, describing the move as Islamic.
During his visit Lee also met with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, to whom he directed about PAS’s foreign policy.

And LKY only met with Nik Aziz during his trip? :D Whoa, really lah BN must be real desperate !
But their strategists probably think this is a smart move. Now you know why Malaysia is in such a mess !

What kind of lame and low sleight by UMNO is this?
"Like that also can ah?" What an insult to Kelantanese's intelligence.
Tuk guru Nik Aziz refused to work with UMNO because UMNO is so corrupted.
Lee Kuan Yew shook Tuk guru's hand because he admired Tuk guru being a political leader of rectitude and probity, as simple as that.
LKY also visited Rosmah at her home in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday afternoon. They spoke for an hour over satay and Malay kueh. Does that also mean something fishy? Why not Najib just divorce Rosmah Mansor then?
UMNO, you are so so so lame.

BN memang bodoh with their "piss off the Malay" agenda. It is not going to work. Maybe it would have worked 50 years ago but not now.

The PAS government in Kelantan under Tok Guru has the absolute right to attract investments from Singapore and also respect the fact that thousands of Kelantanese are working the island republic. If the PAS members and supporters in Kelantan did not protest the recent Lee Kuan Yew-Tok Guru meeting, why should UMNO/BN display their displeasure and politicised the matter in the Manik Urai by-election campaign?

I agree with those that Umno has lost its way and has no idea how to appeal to the people of this country anymore. They are really a bankrupt lot using recycled methods like promising developments, race and religion and threats to win votes. They still are deaf and blind that what the rakyat wants are good governance, justice and fairness, equality, transparency and accountability. Maybe these ideals are the very antitheses of what Umno stands for these days. Change or get dumped the choice is up to Umno.

In 2009 S$ 1.00 = RM 2.45
If only our political leaders are half as capable as LKY, our country would have been a First World country by now.
So what is wrong with learning from this great man ?

What's wrong with Lim KS giving a well received ceramah in MU?
Ong Tee Keat should be there campaigning for UMNO but he was nowhere to be found in Kelantan.

The answer is simple and clear. Lee Kuan Yew is a clean and progressive leader. He brought great progress to Singapore. Tok Guru is also a clean leader and keen to learn how to bring progress to Kelantan and Malaysia. Tok Guru is repulsive to BN because it is corrupt and could not bring progress to the country.

To bicyclelamp, all our leaders should exercise real statesmanship. What's wrong with meeting the likes of LKY, a respected world leader? He is no saint but achievements are recognised. Lets not be afraid to recognise our own failings and learn from others. All the more why PAS appears to be the better choice. I'm not Kelantanese, but I hope they vote for what's best for the country!
