Teoh was expecting first child

KLANG, July 17 — The political secretary to a Selangor state executive councillor, Teoh Beng Hock, who was found dead yesterday, was to be a father as he and his fiancee were expecting their first child.

Teoh’s fiancee, Soh Cher Wei, 28, a teacher from Semenyih near here said she was two months pregnant.

“I will raise the child to treasure our love,” she said when met at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital’s mortuary here today.

Soh and Teoh were supposed to register their marriage in Alor Gajah, Melaka today.

They met five years ago while studying at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and were in a relationship since two years ago and got engaged two weeks ago.

Teoh, 30, a former journalist and an aide to Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean-Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on the balcony of the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam.

He is believed to have fallen from the 14th floor of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission  (MACC) building.

Teoh’s brother, Beng Kee, 33, said he was informed of Teoh’s death by a younger brother at 5pm yesterday.

“The deceased was a jovial and friendly person and the last we met was last week when he told me that he would be taking engagement photographs,” said Beng Kee, a godown manager in Shah Alam.

He said his parents were making the funeral arrangement in Alor Gajah.

Teoh’s sister, Lee Lan, 29, an auditor, said she last met Teoh on Sunday when he returned to Melaka to make the wedding preparations.

Sin Chew Daily deputy news editor Low Yak Buang said Teoh worked for the newspaper for four years before resigning after the 2008 general election to take up a job as a political secretary.

Meanwhile, about 50 reporters and photographers thronged the mortuary to interview Teoh’s family members and to wait for the post mortem results.

The post mortem was completed at 6.25pm and Teoh’s body was taken to Alor Gajah shortly after. Teoh will be buried at the Semenyih Memorial Park on Monday. – Bernama
