A life was lost in the hands of public servants in an event that stinks of improper interrogation techniques and lack of impartiality in carrying out their duties. THAT is the real issue here.

There is a problem here where somebody is dead while in the custody of a government department. There is no racial issue involved here. The public outcry is because of the conclusion taken by various government departments and ministers saying that it is just sudden death and worse saying that how would we know that he is going to jump down. Even if jumped down people will still be angry because the long interrogation technics and deprivation of sleep could be the factor that make somebody loses his mental stability. Such techniques are considered illegal by the UN and sometimes the evidence gathered may not be admissable in courts.
The newspapers should be responsible not to spin the reports into a racial issue. A lot of the readership is Malays and obviously the intention of the newspapers are to create a defensive attitude among Malays as if they are being attacked and the institutions that they controlled are biased and not to be trusted. The call for inquiry not only come from non Malays but from all sectors of the society including non political organisations.

Sad that UMNO mouthpieces are still focusing on race, when we are talking about a human life tragically lost. Instead of focusing on finding the cause of this tragedy and how to prevent it from happening again, Berita Harian and Utusan are pointing fingers at everyone except the real issue. Behind the facade of these newspapers are puppets totally devoid of compassion. Sad.

What other words are left to describe our Pravda propagandists in Utusan and Berita Harian. And if that bald head Zainul Ariffin has balls, I dare him to publish exactly what he said in the New Straits Times. Now dear readers, who is the one turning it into a racial issue. So far, I have spent a lot of time reading news on Teoh Beng Hock's murder and not a single Pakatan Rakyat leader has mentioned anything connected to race.

A young man has just been murdered, a child will grow up not knowing his father and all this bastards can think about is RACE, RACE and more RACE. Everything they touch turns into a racial issue. What other insult can be hurled at this group of shameless people except that their mothers and fathers and grandfathers and grandmothers should be ashamed of themselves for not teaching their sons and daughters proper manners and proper morals. Or in layman's terms, "lu punya bapak tadak ajar lu ka"?

The rakyat of all races whose businesses in Malaysia will attempt to boycott advertising in your newsprint media or electronic media. The public will observe how UMNO backed news twisters can survived with less revenue and how you can keep your unprofessional job. A journalist is required by oath to write the truth and not inciting racial or political disharmony in the country.

If media owners cannot help with positive statements or news, leave your job because you would be negatively influenced by your surroundings and environment. You woud be a lost soul of not able to differentiate between morality and politics.

How would your chidlren lead a life or morality when you cannot lead them by example as good parents who have ethics and principles in life.

Zainul Ariffin is a hopeless person who is over his head. He does not do the Malay race justice. What he says is that Malays should not be criticised or judged by no one, even by Malays themselves. Why is this guy fanning racial issue? So happen there is no Malay death under MACC or Police (sometimes you will have to wonder...), and to give irresponsible statement like he jump to his death or he fell to his death, raises question as to the integrity and credibility of these institutions?

Put it this way, doesn't this Zainul Arrifin want to see a professional MACC and police that everyone can respect and trust? It is not a racial issue but a credibility issue, you idiot! Stop diverting it as racial issue to cause unrest.

Hello utusan and berita - I taught the MACC should give protection to all the witness as per the newly formed institution. In this case, a death has occurs under the custody of the MACC. How do you expect the public to give information if such incident can happen. Look like you are the one stirring the racial issues right from day one. I don't see any racial issues here. If the MACC officer would have said "Cina Bodoh" - now who is racial. Can we charge MACC officer under sedition. A lot has been published in newspaper on racial link news - can the editor being charge or call up by MACC for stirring racial sentiments. Look at a bigger picture first. The public are only concerned on how the MACC conduct investigation to get the truth on the compliant and not by harassing(if true as claimed) and so on.

A young man was found dead in MACC building for no apparent reason after called up by MACC as witness in an investigation, what is wrong if raykat are anger and seek justice?

Why is the son of the MACC Chief, who was convicted in an Adelaide Court in Australia in 2008, still employed as a pilot in MAS? Isn't this abuse of power? Isn't this corruption? Isn't this double-standard?

Zainul Ariffin Isa is the one that made race the issue in Teoh’s death. May Allah punish him for so unashamedly using race as an issue.

MACC; PDRM and the judiciary are Malaysian Institutions. To brand such institutions as Malay-controlled institutions is try to turn Malays against Non-Malays.

When PDRM arrested the five lawyers, the Rakyat from all walks of life and races protested loudly. It is not about race. It is about decency and the respect for the rule of law. No human life should be lost in such tragic and suspicious circumstances – to be taken in as a witness and the next thing is to be found dead.

Anything less than a Royal Commission is not acceptable. Don’t let the Rakyat wrongly associate MACC with “Murderers and Corrupt Cops”. A transparent Royal Commission to remove any doubts as to how Teoh died and how to prevent it from happening to another human being.

I am a non-Chinese Malaysian. I felt deep sorrow and anger at Teoh's death. There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the manner and circumstances of his death. It is only normal for the public to react. I don't consider this a racial issue but a human tragedy. Isn't it normal to call for independent inquiry into the matter? In the corporate world if such a thing happened we would immediately suspend the officers in charge of the project/case whilst the Internal Auditors or an external party investigate the issue independently.

We have read columns written by the new NST boss and more often than not there's always a tinge of racial undertones in his writing. His political masters should be proud of him. It has reached a point where journos in the Umno-controlled papers are now in tune with each other to propogate and defend themselves with racial rhetorics that will justify their being in position of power. What do people like the NST head honcho care except to promote his own ends. This is a person to keep an eye on and see how he twists and bends the paper to his will.

Please don't talk c..k! A person had died due to the interrogation techniques of MACC and you are vomiting out racist comments. Why is MACC not investigating those cases which runs into millions but instead interrogating witnesses on things like RM2,400.00 spendings. He is a political secretary and not the accountant. To say MALAY shoulnd't criticise MALAY is a pure indication how racist the editor is. You are tyring to say that no matter what happen, the MALAY should only critise NON-MALAY. Like i mention before, the whole point is that the RAKYAT knew how inpartial and incompetent the MACC is, that is the reason why a fairplay must be practice! Anyone who has a good memory will understand how the police has also played out the A. Kugan death while under police custody.

I would sugges to make a report against this editor as he is making some racist comment and as such, a need to ISA-ed him for causing racial dishormany and straining the relationship among the RAKYAT.

I have already long boycotted NST. And I would continue to do so and i would urge the public to do so as well. We should not condone injustice being practice in MALAYSIA, we also should not condone irresponsible reporting (although nothing new given the fact that the NST and the other 2 wrapping newspapers are nothing but a political tabloid in Malaysia).

A point to note, it was the MACC responsibility to ensure the safety of all, be it a suspect or witness while being held under custody or cooperating in investigation. Having an incident like this, it is clear that there is an operation flaw in thier procedures and negligence in their part. And i'm throwing this question to the editor in NST, does that mean there would be no implication and there shouldn't be any questions raised as long as a Malay-controlled institution?

This incident is not about race. It is about a government institution that has be mis-used and cannot even protect our own Malaysian Citizen!! He is just come to help the investigation. Even he is a Malay or Indian, we should do the same. Meanwhile, our K Toyo is happily enjoy in his Palace Toyo! This is the BN/UMNO !!

When an issue of this magnitude surfaces, these UMNO controlled paper will bring in the race card to intimidate the other races and try to galvanise one race. This is about the death of an innocent Malaysian found dead in MACC and obviously, MACC has a moral and ethical right to answer the family's of the late Teoh Beng Hock. What's so wrong about this.

UMNO wants the rakyat to keep quiet about this issue. Sorry lah, this is 2009 and not the 1990's.

If they are a responsible national paper, they could have said the Malaysian-controlled rather that Malay controlled authorities. This shows UMNO's true colours and does not reflect their leaders 1Malaysia aspirations.

This un-hearted Zainul Ariffin Isa is accusing us (masses of critics of this incident) on being racist. Can we(maybe about few thousands of us) sue him for sedition 1 by 1, or simultaneously? Or should we make a Police's report 1st?( i hope we won't die making the report)

It is reported that Zainul Ariffin Isa "suggested that there is an agenda to weaken Malay-controlled institutions". If true, then I am grateful to Zainul for letting the cat out of the bag . If indeed there is a hidden agenda to convert public institutions into "Malay-controlled institutions", and here he is referring to MACC and the Police, then we have been dealing with wolves in sheep's clothing, apparently working within UMNO to effectively shoot down Najib's much welcomed "1 Malaysia". Quite apart from it being an extraordinarily stupid statement, running against all Constitutional Guarantees, it is these "covert bigots" who present the biggest challenge to Najib's efforts to build a united nation and his promise to create a nation of peace and harmony. His challenge is not "which political party controls what" (that is the "ebb and tide"of politics and can be redressed in one election) but weeding out the miscreants within his party working to undermine his long term vision which has been accepted at face value till now. Najib had inherited a party and government in disarray, and he needs now to stamp his authority on his party and government. Zainul, Nasri et all are not doing him any favours with their propensity to speak without engaging their brains.

I would agree to one commentator that businesses should boycott advertising in these newspapers as they are creating racial issues. I would go one step further, that is to boycott the products of those advertisers who continue to advertise in these newspapers. 1. Berita Harian and Mingguan Melayu have gone overboard by turning the murder of teoh Beng Hock into a racial matter when nobody raised the issue of race since the sad affair was reported. Yes, there many angry comments about the MACC and that can only be expected as Teoh was in the MACC and died outside the MACC.
By raising Racial comments and for that matter very nasty comments which can only be viewed as incendiary, aimed at causing racial trouble, the editors and the owners of the 2 papers should be immediately detained and charged with sedition and for creating racial trouble. I now understand and support Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's decision to boycott the newspaper and stopped the state government's subscription of it.

It is simply beyond an intelligent person's comprehension how an editor could arrive at the conclusion that the protest against the high-handed methods of the MACC is a challenge to the Malays.

Only an immature, insecure and not too intelligent person can look at the Teoh Beng Hock case from a racial perspective.

OneMalaysia? Nonsense! If we have people in positions of power and influence with such racialist mentality, there can never be OneMalaysia.

I have just retired as a journalist after nearly 35 years in the profession, and during my years as a reporter, socio-political analyst and editor, I have identified five types of journalists in the media
community.

First, there are the EEs -- Editorial Eunuchs, who take orders from their political emperors and write and spin stories to promote the emperor's cause. These political appointees are usually in top and
senior positions, not because they are good journalists or great writers, but because of their connection to powerful political godfathers. They are first class cronies. Many are ghost writers for
their political masters. Some have become millionaires.

(Note: I thank God that, except for one or two cases, the editors I had worked under are not such people. I can vouch that people like Ng Poh Tip, Michael Aeria, Wong Sulong and Wong Chun Wai are
good people of principle and top class journalists, not EEs. My good friend Chong Cheng Hai, the chief editor of theSun, is another =person of integrity.)

Secondly, there are the PPs -- Press Prositutes, who have sold their souls and principles to gain favours and privileges from their political and/or business clients. They will write what pleases their
political masters. The amount of hampers and gifts they receive during festive seasons is perhaps a good indication of their rising status in their media organisation. (Perhaps the MACC should
consider looking at this practice of giving editors hambers and gifts during festive seasons).

Thirdly, there are the MMs -- Media Marionettes, the puppets who have no brains but are used and abused by opportunists to advance their own political or business agenda. They usually feed such
journalists with twisted information and deceive these gullible writers to propogate their schemes of things. Our education system has produced many such gullible, unthinking, uncritical, and dumb people, and some of them are found in the media organisations.

Fourth, there are the JJs -- Junket Journalists, those who will write anything for the sponsors of their overseas trips.

Finally, there are the WWs -- Wise Writers, the rare breed who know how to survive through the controlled press situation and get their honest views into print without rousing the suspicion of their media bosses, who are usually political cronies. There are very few such honest writers with integrity and principles, and they are usually not in positions of power.

How can we expect to have OneMalaysia when we do not really have a free and credible press? If our prime minister is truly sincere in wanting to take take the country to greater height as OneMalaysia, then the first thing he needs to do is to liberate the press by abolishing the oppressive legal restraints such the Printing Presses and Publications Act, the Internal Security Act, the Official Secrets Act, etc. and enact a Freedom of Information Act. Then, he must revamp the whole system of administration to get rid of those known to be corrupt, racist, and incompetent. Most importantly, there must a reform in the judiciary, enforcement agencies, the election commission, and reinstate local council elections.

OneMalaysia? It will remain a slogan and a dream if the current federal government does not take concrete actions to reform the whole political and administrative enviornment in the country.

If the Barisan Nasional administration is unable to bring about such reforms, then we must throw it out at the next general election.

If Najib does not wake up and see that this fler Zainul Ariffin is the wrong choice as GME of NST and BH (and he probably takes orders from his immediate superior Ahmad Talib, executive director of Media Prima), then eventually the PM will regret appointing these two flers to run Umno's propaganda news machines.
