SEREMBAN, July 19 – MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu today said having many Indian-based political parties could cause the community to be split.
He said he took a serious view of the matter and urged the government to be careful when approving such new parties.
“The MIC is having a programme to unite the Indian community, such developments are not healthy for the community so I urge the political parties to work with us,” Samy Vellu told reporters after officiating the 63rd Negeri Sembilan MIC delegates convention here today.
He expressed confidence that the Indian community would support the MIC given that the party was established for 63 years.
“Many Indians meet me about problems and this is proof that the MIC is still relevant and can look after the interests of the Indians,” he said.
To date, there are six Indian-based parties, namely the MIC, the Indian Progressive Front, the Malaysian Indian United Party, the Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party, the Malaysian Indian Democratic Action Front (Mindraf) and the Parti Hak Asasi Manudia.
Samy admitted that “a small number of Indians” alleged that the MIC did not look after the interests of Indians with problems and, as a result, about 40 per cent of the Indian support had swung towards the opposition since 2008.
“Today we see the Indian support for the MIC and the Barisan Nasional returning,” he said.
He said the MIC today wanted to change and take steps to set up the party’s community service centres in every state to help the Indian community.
Earlier, there was only a centre in Kuala Lumpur, excluding the centres set up by state assemblymen and members of parliament. – Bernama

Samy Vellu: Many Indian parties not healthy .... then close MIC. MIC really useless party in the world. This party nicely can hold Umno balls. MIC only can do that. Also very good in "telan" Indians money. MIC only wants Indian in Malaysia always stupid like his leaders. No MIC, Indians in Malaysia will success.

63 years is a long age. I believe 55 is the retirement age? So what should follow is that MIC be closed down (or retire, if you wanna put it that way), for the next generation of politicians and their ideas now dominate those that are of umpteen years ago.

The Malaysian constitution allows for freedom of association and freedom to form lawful associations. There should not be any government intervention just because Samy Vellu says so. To ask the government to intervene and regulate these matters is an insult to all Malaysians and a sinister undermining of our most basic civil liberties guaranteed by our constitution.

Every week I keep hoping that our friend Samy comes out to make a statement. I love reading about him.

To my India friend...be wise - create your destiny and change together - don't to go alone as one race, but bend together as Malaysian as one race - The Malaysian Race to remove BN in 13th GE. There more rights that we can gain for all regardless of race and religion.

Dear Samy Vellu, if you really serious about the welfare and fate of the Indians, I would suggest that you sit with the indian community of the different parties and and start a diologue on why there is a need so many indian parties to set up. Then you will know the grievence of the Indian community and why MIC have lost the support of the Indians. From there you should start a reformation of the party to based on the feedback gathered. Your goal should be form a Indian Unity party that that would strive and work for the wellbeing of the Indian community.
