KOTA KINABALU, Aug 3 — A special sitting of the Sabah State Assembly today approved the amendment on the Administrative and Legislative Assembly Members (Remuneration) 1981 Enactment which will see a pay increase of between 10 and 61 per cent for the Chief Minister, state cabinet members and assemblymen with effect from June 1.
Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Radin Malleh, in presenting the bill said the salary adjustment was reasonable and in view of the increase in the cost of goods and services as well as the extra duties and responsibilities being carried out.
It is also in line with the pay increase given to members of the civil service, he said.
The last adjustment for administrative members and the Sabah State Legislative Council was made in 2000, and the review for the adjustment is most appropriate, he said during the state assembly meeting in Likas, here today.
Radin said that through the amendment, the remuneration or salary of the Chief Minister will go up from RM14,300 to RM15,730, while for the Deputy Chief Minister, it will gone up from RM12,650 to RM13,915. As for the minister, it will move from RM9,900 to RM10,890.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the additional allocation of RM54.8 million was needed to take care of urgent jobs including the maintenance and repair of pipes that have become too old or broken.
These works need to be carried out in order to ensure continued supply of water to the people, he said.
The additional allocation will also cover the budget for the transfer of main water pipes involved in the expansion of roads, special schemes for oil palm small holders, repair of public facilities and emolument and operation expenditure of the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (Sedia). – Bernama

The State government ought to be ashamed of themselves for giving a pay rise when Sabah has got one of the most hardcore poor in the country. The government should take care of the people first before their own self-interest. People are screaming about high cost of goods and services and yet these people chose to give themselves a pay rise. What a silly priority???
Najib should reprimand the State government for being self-serving. The State government thought they are the only ones affected but not the rakyat. Shame on you Musa.
