PENANG, Aug 3 – The Barisan Nasional (BN) has a good chance of winning the upcoming Permatang Pasir by-election, said former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
“BN can win the seat but it has to work hard, run a tight campaign and get close to the people,” he told reporters after delivering a talk in tribute of the Yayasan Tun Sardon foundation at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) here today.
He said the people were much wiser now and would be very discerning as to who they wanted as their elected representative.
“I have always said the people cannot be fooled. If they want you, you will get it (but) if they don’t want you, that’s it, try again,” he said.
The seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman, Datuk Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman, who died of a heart ailment at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
On the illegal anti-Internal Security Act street demonstrations that happened in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, Abdullah said the nation’s economy could be adversely affected if such protests were allowed to continue.
He said there were many other ways for the people to voice their views on the Act, among them holding discussions, but resorting to street demonstrations was not a suitable method here in Malaysia.
“Hold it (gathering) at a stadium and if the numbers are not many, a small hall will do. But do not act like what happened (on Saturday),” he said, adding that people involved were selfish in that they did not consider whether their actions would inconvenience others. – Bernama

The people will be a damn fool if they cannot tell how BN is so crooked, power hungry and blood-sucking. I don't see how our country's future has changed. From the day the last GE was held, NOTHING has changed! Crime, economy, policies, corruption, fascism, patronage, civil servants manipulation and control, opposition suppression, racism, as well as political lunacy are all remained the same. Now, tell me why I change my view on you and BN.
My prediction for the Permatang Pasir by-election: PR will win by 2000-3000 votes! It is very different from Manek Urai. The Chinese population there is about 25%. The Malays are more literate and informed. You can't compare orange to apple. If you get high because you think Manek Urai's result was an indication of a change of the wind, then enjoy your illusion for as much as you can. Once the effect of the self-delusion is over, start sulking for the humiliation of another by-election loss.

BN will loose Permatang Pasir despite working very very hard as too many broken promises, rhetoric speeches, blunders & scandals for the past years.
AAB! Where is the 60,000 additional police promised to combat crimes? Where is the 60,000 hectares of padi-cultivation land as promised during your tenure?

Manek Urai?, Bukit Gantang?, Selambau?, Permatang Pauh?. Even when UMNo is not contesting, they even have 'chance of winning'....this is the nightmare that UMNo is having every day. They thought that by upping the amount of 'duit kopi', 'duit sedekah', 'duit upah', in every past by-elections, they can secure a win.
You may give away a lorry-load of giveaways, but your money can't buy the conscience of the rakyat.
