SHAH ALAM, Aug 5 — Selangor opposition leader Datuk Seri Mohamad Khir Toyo has a solution to the beer controversy brewing in the state: follow Barisan Nasional's (BN) lead.
The former Selangor mentri besar told The Malaysian Insider there should be some form of compromise when dealing with the problem.
“I am not suggesting that the sale of alcohol be banned everywhere. Alcohol can be sold, just not in areas where there is a Muslim majority,” said Khir.
He said when Selangor was under BN, beer was not sold in areas like Shah Alam and Bangi because of the large number of Muslims living in those areas.
Does that mean the former mentri besar agrees with PAS, particularly Datuk Hassan Ali, on the matter?
“Barisan has never had a problem like this in the past. If they (DAP) can respect Hindu rights, why not Muslim rights?” he replied.
There are currently no official by-laws which prohibit the sale of beer to the public with the exception of Muslims and minors. The problem first came to light when the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) seized beer worth about RM620 from a 7-Eleven outlet in Shah Alam. In retaliation, Selangor state executive councillor Ronnie Liu ordered local council officers to return the seized beer.
Liu’s action in turn sparked an angry reaction from PAS state chief Hassan who demanded that Liu be stripped of his local council portfolio.

I think the best suggestion is to put back you as MB of Selangor and the problem will solve. Perhaps Dr. Hassan then be the deputy for you.
Then, we will have free flow of wine throughout the country and we can then make full use of MACC to probe those opposition.
However if you need to be back to the seat, let the rakyat believe first and win the election, or else just keep your mouth shut and sleep well in your super dooper mansion palace.

so if anything that is against the religion should be removed? so I guess, dogs, prostitutes, amphibians(crabs, frogs, etc), pork, all non-halal stuff should be removed right?
Malaysia do not belong to 1 Race or 1 Religion, be considerate to others. Respect others, To be respected.

What is disrespectful is serving beef with hindus present, that would be disrepecting hindu rights.
Demanding that alcohol be served at a hari raya gathering or in a muslim home would be disrespecting islam.

Anyways, whether it is in Shah Alam, Timbuktu or Istanbul, why can't alcohol be sold anywhere and everywhere? Don't Muslims have any self control? Alcohol is no different than cigarettes.
If cigarettes can be sold anywhere and everywhere, why can't alcohol? If it is haram for Muslims to drink and purchase alcohol, then isn't it a test of their faith and virtue in avoiding the purchase, and consumption of alcohol? This is about individual choice.
From all the "hoopla" that I've been hearing about Muslims this, and Muslims that . . . . it's like both UMNO and PAS are the biggest doubters of their own race! They call their own COWARDS, TRAITORS, and worse. They look down upon their own, thinking that the "average Ahmad" cannot think for himself and that PAS and UMNO must tell them what they can and cannot do.
Such mentality is what is holding back Muslims. It is sad, but the oppresion is not coming from the Chinese, Indians, orang Asli or even the West. It is coming from the very people that should be championing the Muslim cause!
How can Muslims be expected to succeed when their own leaders are the very obstacles placed in their path? THINK ABOUT IT!
**PS This will never get "published" coz anything that remotely sheds light on race issues automatically gets "censored" - even by MI.

I think religion education need to enchance for Muslim temptation on alcohol consumption.
If Muslim can be trained to undergone during Puasa time to avoid eating and drinking,
I do not see why Muslim cannot be trained to avoid alcohol.
Beside Islam, Sikh and Buddhism also ban alcohol consumption.
The sell of any drink (Soft or hard drink) so long it is legal in one matter whether to or not consume is at one's own discretion.

In Shah Alam, most hotels, social clubs and Chinese restaurants are serving alcoholic drinks.
This started during the BN rule of that state.
I see that he is now wearing glasses again.
Perhaps he can see better now.
But then again, how can he see, when he does not have brains to tell him that beer has been sold in Shah Alam all the while!
Even in Putrajaya - Malaysia's administrative capital (brainchild of Mahathir) beer is being sold in hotels and Chinese restaurants.
What are these buggers talking about ah?

Using majority rule does not make any sense here. It may not even make sense if you allow the muslim to vote on this issue. There is no doubt that some muslims drink alcohol. And when they do, they do appear to be reasonable and nice people.
Why is it stupid to suggest that beer should not be sold in muslim majority area? Well, Malaysia is muslim majority and eventually when you feel like being holier than me you will say that beer will not be sold in malaysia.
When will this ever end? Do you not consider the rest of us, non muslim in your though process and decisin making process?

There's a law to follow and when the law says that beer can be sold it can be sold. If they want to ban alcohol sales in Muslim majority areas...CHANGE THE LAW!
