PENANG, Aug 8 — The implementation of a single stream school could help in the success of the 1 Malaysia concept as it would nurture a sense of unity among students, said International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir.
He said, through the education concept, multiracial students could mingle and interact more effectively.
“It can be done for example, by making Mandarin and Tamil languages as elective subjects so that students can learn their friends’ mother-tongues.
“It would be good if Malaysians can master Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Tamil, thus achieving the objective of a harmonious 1 Malaysia, and to understand one another,” he said in his keynote address at the 1 Malaysia Unity discourse here today.
He said to prevent students from neglecting their mother-tongues, the single stream school must make it compulsory for them to take up their respective mother-tongues.
Mukhriz said the education system could bring all races together, through the sharing of culture and tradition, as well as preventing any racial polarisation.
He said the single stream school proposal was stated in the Razak Report 1956, a year before the country gained independence.
“Allahyarham Tun Abdul Razak once said that he hoped the single stream school would become a reality, but after 52 years of our country’s independence, it has not materialised,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mukhriz said the 1 Malaysia concept mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak could be achieved if all parties worked together. – Bernama

In this respect, I like to quote my neighbour's daughter's story: Her teacher was so obsessed with her faith that she started preaching in her class. One of her argument against the consumption of certain meat was it would make you less clever. This had happened before, until one of the boys stood up and told her that ' You bohang, Che gu!. 'My family eat the meat [ Bah Kut Teh ]every morning before we go to school and both my brother and sister scored all As!!

Turning all primary schools into national schools will not solve the problem because most parents have very little confidence in the quality of national schooling. They will turn instead to private schools or, in the case of UMNOputras and their BN partners, to international schools. The solution lies in building up the quality of national schools to the extent that parents of all ethnic groups want their children in rather than out. It means that we must stop playing race-based politics in education and focus instead on quality schooling for all. It means putting in place administrators and teachers based on their academic and pedagogical abilities, not their ethnicity. It means putting quality principals incharge of how their schools ought to operate rather than bureaucrats are have no idea of what's going on at the school level. It means making schools accountable to parents and students, for instance, by producing school report cards so that parents can see where their children's school stand in relation to others. It means setting high standards for all our schools. It means we have to benchmark our schools against the best in the world. Above all, it means we stop playing politics with education for the sake of our children and their future.

Even if you have one culture, one religion, one language, one school -
Look around the world, they still kill each other in their own country.
The common language we need to learn is respect for people, their human rights and the rule of law written in any number languages.

But any bright idea to make 1Malaysiaworks, for long-term good of Malaysia, be it from Dr M's son, will come to nothing if the UMNO-controlled newspapers, like Utusan Malaysia, continue to plant divisive racial mistrust and even hatred, obviously sanctioned by the top UMNO leaders, for shor-term political gain.
Putting the various races together, like in one stream schooling, on the one hand, and yet stiring up racial discord, on the other hand, is liken to experimenting with home-made fire-crackers, to see if it will become an instrument of celebration that others give credit for, or tools of destruction that is explosive and damaging that may leave a permanent scar to regret over.

UTAR's medium of instruction is English and there's no restriction on the ethnicity of students willing to enroll. Unlike UiTM where non-Ma... ah well, you should know.

WHY IS THIS COUNTRY HAVING DIFFERENT LANGUAGES FOR DIFFERENT SCHOOLS? WHY DO THE GOVERNMENT HAVE TO SUPPORT OR SUBSIDISE THESE SCHOOLS? HOW CAN THIS GOVERNMENT TRULY ACHIEVE ONE MALAYSIA WITH ONE MALAYSIANS IF THE GOVERNMENT CONTINUE AND WORSE STILL SCARED OF THE MINORITY GROUPS ALL BECAUSE OF THEIR VOTES???
Can this country really achieve a harmonious society when each and every race have their own language and own schools? NO WAY TILL END OF TIME ! BUT FOR SURE YOU CAN MAKE THIS COUNTRY A ' TIME BOMB ' BECAUSE ALL IT NEED ARE POLITICIANS WHO USES RACE AND RELIGION FOR THEIR PERSONAL GAINS AND POLITICAL GAINS.
My suggestion is just have TWO TYPE OF Language in the schools. One in Bahasa Malaysia and One in English so we can compete globally.

PS. This is BS. BN government already has a 1Malaysia school. That was the sekolah kebangsaan (even its name say so). And see how that worked out?!

First, they retracted of teaching Maths & Science in English and now some senseless proposal of condensing the school education into a single stream. Seeing how packed the class schedules in schools are, the teaching of mother languages will somehow be neglected and this is of disadvantage to the students.
So to curb this, parents will either opt to send their kids for more tuitions or alternatively send them off to international schools. This is hand translates to heavier financial burdens for the parents and unnecessary stress for the students. Totally, no life for the kids!!
Instead of moving forward in the education system, we are moving backwards.....let's go back to how things were done in the past. Remember how things were managed in the 1950s'.........ermmm..HELLO!!!! We are in the 20th century now, STOP TALKING ABOUT THE PAST!!!!!!!
What are the leaders of the country thinking????? Day by day showing us more of their stupidity!! Can't even think and plan properly, only know how to go to Parliament to scream and yell obscenities to one another!! MORONS!!

When I was young I had two very good friends. Together we had malay, indian and chinese. We did school activities together, learnt together, ate together, celebrate together and suffered together as well. My kids dont have this chance. A class would normally comprise of 97%++ of the same race. They will never have that oppportunity to have other races as best friends. Why? Because we selflessly separate them from schools. We expect them not to be racists but we divide them from young. And here we ask why we are racists? Ask the man in the mirror first.

I like to point out here is, those SRJK schools, private Chinese schools & UTAR do not impose intake only for certain ethnic or religion. I believe religious schools also do not stop any non-Muslim who are sincerely willing to learn Islamic knowledge to study there. All these schools do not implement discrimination based on ethnic or religion. It is open to all if anyone willing to study there.
But in the case of UiTM, MARA colleges and Matriculations, they impose restriction on intake to only certain ethnic groups. Even students from certain ethnic background wish to study in those institutions, they are either restricted with certain small quota or totally unable to get in. This is a kind of institutional discrimination. And is very unhealthy for social integration, against the principle of equal opportunity and deprive the civil rights for all citizens.
And what to do with Petaling Street, Jalan Masjid India and restaurants in Jalan Alor? If you like to shopping or eating there, they will not stop you but even welcoming you. Just that you may not want to go there. You are discriminating them for whatever reasons, not they discriminate you. The logic has to be clear here.

religion. In certain Chinese School dishes containing pork are sold. Other race too want to preserve their culture and language not just the Malays.Single stream school should include morning prayer from other faith too not just Muslim morning prayer. On top of that the quality of the single stream school must be improved, to lure the Chinese student and English should replace the Malay language in our education system. The Chinese are more attracted to education system that is deliver in english such as UEC

right, we should make English the main stream as this is the most useful language in the world. Do it right the first time if you want to change.
Other countries like Japan, Indonesia do not have "race-based" policies as well, we should follow them and abolish all "race-based" policies in Malaysia too.

Evolution wise, it is alot beneficial for the offspring as mixed children reduces in-breeding possibility. We are programmed not to in-breed and research has shown that in-breeding produces less bright offspring to say the least.
Historically wise, we have also done it before. Back in the era of Malacca empire, when Chinese people came they married local people. Hence, we have what we called baba and nyonya.
Globally, as the advancement of air transportation, the world become smaller and smaller. More and more interaction between people of different races. Hence, there are more and more mixed marriages nowadays. Even Obama is a mixed between a black and a white.
So you see... for the benefit of human race.... get mixing ;)

The problem with us is not that the population do not accept Malay to be the uniting factor but the implementation is too zealous and race centered. The ketuanan Melayu concept has made non Malays hate the Malays and everything Malay including the language. We should abandon anybody ketuanan concept and just accept and make Malay language to be the national language and incorporate as many words from the other languages as possible to make it more convenient and friendly. Improve the language to suit the various races in the country. We don't to import English and Arabic words too much we can depend on Mandarin, Tamil, Iban and Kadazan words to enlarge the language and make the language truly Malaysian.
On the other hand the various vernacular languages should be made as elective subjects for the students to master and teach the languages including the cultures as well so that the students appreciates the various positives and sensitivities of the other races in the country. English can be used at the tertiary levels for advance knowledge.

Just think about these:
- Muhyiddin Yassin, "Anwar a traitor to Malay"
- Utusan, "DAP anti Islam"
- Mukhriz, "One school system"
These are statements design to arouse communal sentiments!
The key to one school system is not to ban. The key is to improve the national schools to be so attractive that parents of all races would want to send their children there voluntarily. But achieve this objective fairly by not restricting or robbing vernacular schools of their rights to funding. After all, these schools have been producing equal number of towering Malaysians and contributing to the country since day one.
The important task is for us to have a two party system. This will give check and balance to good governance. As PR is at its infancy, support them. If they screw up later, we vote BN again. This way, kita semua untung.

If you have not studied in any Malaysian schools, kindly be silent on this matter. You have no idea how bad things are. You have never experience what it is like to NOT want to wear the tudung, the challenges of making friends with people who are not of your race. Strangely it is the teachers who are your foes.
You have no idea what it is like to have the entire school, your entire society trying to define you by a single facet of your being. My religion is not the end all, be all of me. It is a tiny facet that was blown out of proportion when my family move back to this hloe.
I am not my race or my religion. I am me. It seems neither society or government can understand that.

That will be unconstitutional. The racists Be End can agree to your "Only if" condition to violate the constitution and use English instead of BM. But what if they set their condition that 'jus soli' principle on citizenship is to be withdrawn, are you willing to agree?
