PUTRAJAYA, Aug 11 — Anyone intending to talk on the 1Malaysia concept must know the country’ s history beforehand, said Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.
He said the 1 Malaysia concept introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak emerged as a continuation of past history, and as such, an understanding of history was most important.
“Anyone of us who are history illiterate will not be able to debate well or with authority on subjects concerning 1 Malaysia.
“How we struggled against colonialism, how the Chinese and Indians were brought to the peninsula, how the social system spread in the urban and rural areas.
“We must know all these things in the context of understanding 1 Malaysia.
That’ s why, from my observation, most of the people who talk without knowledge on history lately, they are not being realistic,” he said when delivering his keynote address at the 1Malaysia Seminar organised by the Ministry of Information Communication and Culture together with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), here today.
Rais said under the 1 Malaysia concept: “People First, Performance Now”, the slogan ‘ people first’ does not mean that the people will get everything that they ask for, but the voice of the majority must be respected.
“If there 1,000 people, it is fairer to consider the voice of 501 people compared to 499, but this does not mean that the 499 people are being ignored.
Everyone has a place in this country,” he said.
However, the minister said, the interpretation by the opposition was different, saying that it was the same as ‘ Malaysian Malaysia’ .
He pointed out that 1 Malaysia brought a meaning to solidarity, the inputs, and the meaning of a new life for the people, together with regard to their respective interests, whereas the Malaysian Malaysia was a political slogan created by Lee Kuan Yew which was brought into this country by the DAP, pointing out that the people under the constitution must be changed, and only one desire, one aspiration.
Those who said that the 1 Malaysia concept was the same as Malaysian Malaysia must go back to history, Rais said.
“1 Malaysia allocates to us the existing rights under the constitution, but the constitution is not amended under 1 Malaysia,” he said.
Rais also said that the slogan ‘ Performance Now’ was not confined to government officers alone but included the students too. Their achievements were given priority and must be made a top objective.
Meanwhile, he said that out of the 4,095 respondents interviewed by the Information Department with regard to the 1 Malaysia concept, 68 per cent agreed to accept the concept as a daily practice which must be supported. – Bernama

An antique idealist like this will not change easily. He might as well stay at his old ministry to look after the museums and traditional arts.

Before 1957, there was no Malaysia. Before 1963, Sabah and Sarawak were not even in Malaysia. Where do you start from in past history? Where do you end?
It is clear from all his statements to support the"1 Malaysia" nonsense that he has no real idea what the concept is.
Tell a lie and you need another lie to prop the first lie up. Tell an incorrect statement and you need a serious of incorrect statements to keep propping up the first statement.
What a load of crap!

Time for the post millenial founding fathers who will grant all Malaysians a "New Deal". Time to end the Apartheid of Bumiputraism and the Bumiputra concept's disrespect for the Hadith, Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 7, Ch. 3. B.N. can either learn this new thought paradigm (which Raja Aziz, Tengku Razaleigh and Tok Guru Nik despite being from the older generation have done fabulously) or fade into irrelevance.

For UMNO, the Constitution post-1969, including major amendments in the 1980s done by Mahathir, is what they wish to uphold.

A progressive society must keep asking oursleves of any privileges given and try to let them go when it is time to. Yes, there will be an under class always, that need help, but belonging to one race does not automatically make you an underclass.
You do your race a disfavour by not having enough confidence in them to compete. Nobody will complain about a means test for providing opportunities. By race, it is a disgrace.

One more point: If history contradicts Islam, which one prevails? What you purported to say about the true meaning of 1Malaysia is exactly the kind of contradiction you are getting. Don't be hypocrite!

quote " Rais said under 1 Malaysia concept: “People First, Performance Now”..."
Eh, Mr Rais. May I point out that A Concept is Nothing But just a concept ( like an idea, a thought, etc. Nothing tangible !) You interpret your way, others interpret their way.
No wonder so much confusions even among the Cabinet Ministers themselves...need a few days retreat to understand the concept.
And the KPIs, KPAs...sheez ! Are we seeing an experiment in a classroom ? How about adding KPCs (Keh Poh Chee) , KPO (Koh Pee Oo) indicators as well ?
Even then, that concept or slogan is a battle cry (or is it an appeal) to govt.employees to wake from their slumber (under the previous PM?) to serve the people first and perform now !?
Wonder who is the smart idiot that came up with such a catch_word(s)....after so many months of publicity, the majority still don't understand what it means (me included)...Sigh..
History ? you mean it was taught in schools, really ?? Which years and which schools ? Or do you mean historians ?
By the way, with so many Ministers talking about concept, who is actually working,eh ??

Nazi propaganda minister Goebbels said "a lie, if audacious enough and repeated enough times, will be believed by the masses."
Yeah, right. Just compare the history books published 20 years ago and now. See the differences. Events and facts in today's books are distorted to the point it is no longer history but propaganda.
B-N is history come next GE. That I know.

I may not know much history, so I wont got there. But I do know that it takes good food to make a person grow. Too bad the food Malaysia gets is all poisoned/contaminated/foul/crap. Thus, Malaysia is now stunted.
I am officially ASHAMED to call myself a Malaysian.
