SHAH ALAM, Aug 28 — A group of Malay-Muslim protesters claiming to be residents of Section 23 have threatened bloodshed unless the state government stopped the construction of a Hindu Temple.
Amid chants of "Allahuakbar," the group also left the severed head of a cow at the entrance of the State Secretariat here as a warning to Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
The "residents" said that the construction of a Hindu temple in a 90 per cent Malay- Muslim neighbourhood was insensitive because activities there would disrupt their lives.
They claimed that the "noise" from the temple would disturb their own praying, and that they would not be able to function properly as Muslims.
The group of 50 over protestors marched shortly after Friday prayers from the Shah Alam State mosque to the State Secretariat.
“I challenge YB Khalid, YB Rodziah and Xavier Jeyakumar to go on with the temple construction. I guarantee bloodshed and racial tension will happen if this goes on, and the state will be held responsible,” shouted Ibrahim Haji Sabri amid strong chants of “Allahu Akbar!”
Ibrahim identified himself as the Deputy Chairman of the Resident’s Committee against the building of the temple in S23 here, which is perceived by some as being a Muslim majority area.
He told the press that the state should move the temple to Section 22 as ‘originally planned’, and also labelled Khalid a “traitor to the Malay race and Islam”.
It is understood that the protest is an immediate reaction towards the Selangor MB’s visit to the Hindu temple site yesterday, an act seen by the "residents" as disrespectful to the Muslims of the community.
Mohd. Zurit Bin Ramli, who claims to be the secretary of the "Coalition of Malaysian NGOs" echoed Ibrahim’s stand on the matter, saying that it was irresponsible on the part of the state government to approve the construction as there was apparently a “90 per cent” majority Muslim population in Section 23.
“With a temple on our residential area, we cannot function properly as Muslims. The temple will disrupt our daily activities like prayers in the Surau. We cannot concentrate with the sounds coming from the temple,” stated Zurit.
When asked whether members of the protest were affiliated with any organisations or movements, Ibrahim claimed that the people present today were members of PAS, PKR as well as Umno who are “united in the name of Islam and the Malay spirit.”
The state government was also accused of lying to the people of Selangor.
The Chairman of the Residents Committee, Mahyuddin Manaf excitedly proclaimed that the committee would uncover “the lies” and find proof of the state’s misconduct.
“Khalid Ibrahim wears a mask of a Muslim, but in truth he is a liberal. PAS stands to lose out as a result. I voted for PAS as well as Khalid in the past elections,” Mahyuddin claimed.
The issue first cropped up when the Selangor government proposed that the Sri Mariamman temple be relocated from Section 19 to Section 23.

And how can we allow a threat of violence? Especially the part where "if violence happens the state will be responsible!"
Hello, YOU are responsible for YOUR OWN acts of violence. Please don't blame others if you choose to act violently.

Carrying a dead cow's head is disgustingly provocative act.
1Malaysia is a joke, and it feels like all the headlines that the Muslim religion seems to be making in Malaysia recently are not only negative but also ridiculous. This is not what I understand of Islam. This is not why I'm fasting in solidarity with my Muslim friends, whom I consider family.
I'm sure they would let the worship of my god co-exist next to the worship of theirs. Who are these people who march with severed cow heads?
WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT ALLOWING THIS?

Please stop all these racial rhetorics before the country goes to the dogs. I dread to imagine what would happen if a Hindu or a christian were to say that they cannot concentrate.

This is no way to settle issues amongst fellow Malaysians. And further, where are the people who are supposed to uphold the law, or is there a higher law that excludes these agent provocateurs from prosecution?
It is so ironic that such things are swept under the carpet so that it does not exists in the eyes of the Government in Malaysia, whereas just weeks ago, the Singapore PM dedicated a large portion of his speech about maintain mutual respect amongst the people of various faiths in Singapore.
While I know where Singapore (for all the snide comments that people make about them) is headed as a society, I am thoroughly concerned on where Malaysia is heading, especially within the government political apparatus.
But as always, sanity will prevail and the people of Malaysia will rise up and say enough is enough. When you cut us, we all bleed the same color, feel the same pain. So all this provocation will not make us any weaker, but stronger as a nation and people. But this we have to do by ourselves, because the BN government has shown that it prefers to divide and rule the people of Malaysia.

I appeal to all good Muslims to condemn such demonstrations. It cannot be that Islam preaches such hatred and disrespect ;and immediately after Friday prayers? What on earth were in their minds during their prayers?
Unfortunately, the way the demonstration was allowed to proceed without police intervention does imply that UMNO is the organizer.
I expect the two leaders of this demonstration will probably end up with "Datuk" titles awarded by UMNO soon.

Why can't we treasure our good fortune, do what we can in our own little ways to make this a happy place for ourselves? Why must we be so disrespectful, intolerant and abusive to each other? Why do we want to self-destruct? There is enough for all to enjoy in this country, why must we want all for ourselves? Why can't we share?
Why don't we think of ways to improve the quality of lives for ourselves instead of creating disharmony which will eventually destroy us all?
Malaysia had a rich tradition of tolerance, a rich way of life which has been forsaken. No more are we seeking a livelihood of peace, harmony and co-existence. Instead we are misusing our good fortune seeking confrontation, fights and disruption. This is destroying ourselves and our nation.

This is the work of Khir Toyol and his UMNO leaders out to create chaos in order to gain power. This is utterly shameful and disgust. The people have read your moves and motives and has nothing to do with religious sensitivities.
The MIC, Gerakan , MCA , SUPP , PBS , PBRS and others must come out in full force to condemn such action by this coward group and inaction on the part of BN govt. This is disgraceful on the part of the Federal govt to allow the situation to deteriorate to such an extent. You are responsible for the security of the people and must act responsibly and in a timely manner.
The people will hold the PM and his govt. responsible if anything untoward happens. The nation and the people must stand up and strongly condemn such actions by the group and the inaction on the part of the police and BN govt.

Isn't that a terrorist-like threat? How do you deal with terrorists?
Are the authorities going to keep quiet on such kinds of threats?
Isn't the ISA to be used against terrorists?
What is Hisham's take on this? Why is the IGP silent on it? When are they going to issue any statements? How are they going to reassure the public that peace and security will prevail?
What and how do you expect the people to think about such kind of threats?
After what had happened and threats of bloodshed issued, how do you think the people should react?
Do you expect them to take it silently, as if nothing had happened?
Could they be blamed if they are feeling very afraid that terrorism and social unrest would happen right in front of their doorsteps or work places?
There are so much uncertainties and troubling questions after such religious and racial protests.
Is it that a certain people practising a certain religion has more rights than others who practice other faiths? Or is it that the religion is all fair, but the people who practise it could do as they like? To the extent of threatening others with blood shed?
Malaysia is never the same again.

I don't understand what are those muslims following, the Quran or some thing else? My dear muslim brothers there, can you tell any of the teachings of Islam supporting your actions. I am sure you won't and you are saying that you unite in the name of Islam? Then I advise you to please learn quran and Islam first before anything like this. That's what Allah says in the quran. "
There is no compulsion in religion and Allah even says, if he wish he could have made all the human beings muslims but he wants the human to learn, think and believe. How can you refuse the freedom that Allah gave the human beings. What do you think if there is some country with 90% of Hindus and will you support a situation where they come up and say no to a mosque? Islam doesn't teach intolerance but It's the religion of peace. I strongly recommend you to learn what Islam tells and please do practice it. Nobody is a muslim by name. Nobody is a muslim until he practices it.

It is heartbreaking to see our fellow Malaysian, our "brothers" insulting the Hindu faith. Insulting their own countrymen & women.
It is more heartbreaking to know that the authorities, the very ones who's supposed to protect us did NOTHING. The police, the menteri(s) and our very own leaders who preached 1 MALAYSIA and even SANG the preach.
Carrying a cow's head, insulting others faith is NOT what ISLAM teaches, nor the teaching of any faith. What these men did (right after the Friday prayers) are fueled by hatred and ignorance. It is dishonest, selfish and full of self-righteousness. A clear example of ISLAM under attack by muslim themselves.
~~“I challenge YB Khalid, YB Rodziah and Xavier Jeyakumar to go on with the temple construction. I guarantee bloodshed and racial tension will happen if this goes on, and the state will be held responsible,” shouted Ibrahim Haji Sabri amid strong chants of “Allahu Akbar!”~~
En. Ibrahim Haji Sabri, you are an insult to your faith. You and your group of parade provoked peace and promoted violence. You even have the audacity to want to hold others responsible for your own action. But most humiliating of all, with your racisme & ignorance, you justified your action as an act of faith .
Rest assured in this Holy month of Ramadhan, what you and your fellow protest have shown, especially to us of other faith, are pure hatred and malice.
I pray our nation will not succumb to this, for each and every incident such as this we need to and must reach out to one another, to all our sisters and brothers of different faith, race and colors, and assure each other that we do want 1 Malaysia, that these people who marched in hatred does not mirror the rest of Malaysia.

"The temple will disrupt our daily activities like prayers in the Surau. We cannot concentrate with the sounds coming from the temple,” stated Zurit."
Have they not seen the church and Thai-Buddhist temple DIRECTLY next to each other in Petaling Jaya? On Jalan Pantai? The Christians tolerate the resounding sounds of the gong being hit over and over again (coming from the temple next door) that can be heard clearly even from inside the main hall and the Thai-Buddhists tolerate the singing of songs during the Christians' worship sessions.
So, how then can it be said that "We cannot concentrate with the sounds coming from the temple" when many of us are experiencing the EXACT SAME situation and are okay with it?
Is this not proof enough that religions can be situated directly next to each other but also carry on with their religious activities?
And to threaten bloodshed? Has everything resorted to violence now? Is there no room for civilized negotiation without violence being threatened in the end? We have been independent for exactly 52 years now and yet some of us are still living backwards.
Oh yeah, and to carry around the chopped off cow head? It's utterly barbaric. I'm disgusted and so are many of my MELAY friends. Everyone knows that the cow is a sacred animal for the Hindus so much so that they do not consume beef because they feel that the cow has given them so much, milk & cheese.
Patience & understanding, tolerance & an open mind are very much needed.
