SHAH ALAM, Sept 5 — The town hall meeting called today by Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim to hold dialogue over the recent cow-head protest controversy descended into chaos, with around 300 residents from Section 23 jeering and mocking the meeting.
Proceedings barely got off the ground before the protesters started shouting and booing at Khalid, along with Khalid Samad (MP for Shah Alam), and Shah Alam mayor Mazalan Md Noor.
Despite calls for calm, the ruckus continued with the upset residents yelling “Penipu!” (liar!) and “Bodoh!” (stupid!) each time Khalid attempted to address them.
Tempers frayed at one point, with rowdy protesters standing on their chairs while shouting.
One Indian Section 23 resident confronted a cow-head protester, prompting MBSA enforcement officers to step in to defuse the situation.
Tensions appeared to ease after that, but the protesters started to get worked up again when Batu Tiga state assemblyman Rodziah Ismail took to the podium. The residents accused her of ignoring their views when planning the relocation of the temple, pelting her with shouts of “Tipu!”
Khalid Ibrahim has said the state government will now reconsider the location of the temple, and that the state development board (PKNS) would need to come up with an amicable solution. This did not placate the irate residents any.
The situation deteriorated further when protesters insulted an Indian attendee, telling him Indians could easily stand listening to the “azan” (Muslim call to prayers) five times daily. This triggered another round of altercations even as the mentri besar plead for calm.
He asked all parties to halt arguing over the issue, saying he would seek out their views personally before making a final decision on the matter.
Proceedings kept being halted by shouting protesters, who made up one-third of the attendees. Around 40 Indian residents from Section 23, who are in favour of the temple relocating there, were also at the meeting.
With no clear outcome possible from the emotionally-charged meet, aides led the mentri besar away. The meeting ended with the situation exactly as it was, with no resolution in sight.
Last Friday, a group of 50 protesters from the Section 23 area in Shah Alam held a demonstration in front of the state secretariat building to protest the planned relocation of the 150-year-old Sri Mahamariamman Temple to Section 23 from Section 19. They brandished a severed head of a cow at the protest.
The 150-year-old temple was built on a plantation which over the years was developed into housing estates by the Selangor Development Corporation (PKNS). No provisions were made to relocate the temple, which is now in the middle of a Muslim majority area.

Face them head on!
From the way they sounded they may not be good believer of any holy faith.
They are just fanatical politician's tools.
Come up with a good solution.
The solution where real good Muslim and Hindu can live together in harmony.

Do the Chinese, Indian and elite Malay contractors, businessmen, tycoons, actors, actresses, models, journalists think that they, their families, their friends, their property will be safe then? If they believe that then by all means continue supporting UMNO. If not please use whatever channels you have with UMNO to tell them that enough is enough. And this goes to the people behind Malaysian Insider too.
You would not know one day in the future, your son or daughter will be killed by the inferno? Do you want to take that chance?

Stop letting your feelings get the better of you and start using your brains - you can't force either opinion on the other by behaving like kids in a playground.
All you are doing is making yourselves look like childish and immature adults who haven't got their way so are throwing a king-sized tantrum.
Grow up all of you and sit down like adults to solve the issue.

So, I don't see why everyone needs to get worked up over a temple relocation issue. If there is enough evidence that the new area is a Hindu-majority area, then get on with the project. Why does the government need to concern themselves with racist people who protested with a bloody cow head?

If he does not think carefully -everything that happened is part of Najib's plan to retake Selangor. That meeting had been forseen by UMNO who had seize the opportunity to show Khalid's loss of control in the state.
He has to use cunning and try to expect UMNO's reaction to any action he takes. Also remembers the wolves in his own Pakatan pretending to be goats.

The fact that even the police stood by as the protestors marched with a cow-head and then the Home Minister goes to their defense (only to switch his stand the day after) only emboldens these folks. Again this is consistent with the Ministry's inaction against the 2 reporters from Al' Islam who partook of the holy sacraments in a Catholic church, only to spit it out and photograph it. An act as despicable as this, did not even warrant a strong warning against the 2 reporters. Again and again, the government of the day is sending the message to the minorities, to respect the feelings of the majority and to the majority, do what you want with the minority because, you are the TUAN, your rights are limitless.

Why can't they just sit down and listen, assess, then debate instead of yelling like animals in the zoo? Even animals are better behaved. What has 52 years of independence taught the younger generation? Absolutely NOTHING!!!
Well, they got what they wanted - no resolution, continued chaos. There's no end in sight.

There is no way to gauge and come to a decision this way. I think one better way is a controlled meeting for representatives from each group to have a round table discussion, each allocated a fixed amount of time like the State Assembly format.
Anyway this is a good try. PR is still learning how to handle the rogues of politics in the likes of UMNO.

Only residents or rate-payers may attend.
Anyone who wishes to speak needs to follow guidelines
The authority must be prepared to enforce the rules
Unruly elements will be removed from the meeting.
The outcome shows that many Malaysians are not used to democratic practices but it is a good attempt.

It is better to just organize a referendum vote among the Section 23 residents in peaceful circumstances than attempt a dialogue when it is obvious that UMNO members will not allow for a peaceful and fruitful dialogue.
Let the majority decide in a secret confidential vote. Whatever the outcome, so be it!

To PM Najib,
Is your lust for power so strong that you are willing to bring suffering and chaos onto each and every Malaysian?
How many more must suffer before you come to your sense?
Given the role of PM, you have refuse to take any action for the good of the nation. Despicable inaction.

Take a look at the current situation. When PKNS took the estate for development they should give enough land for the temple and plan the housing estate accordingly.
Temple is there for many years but the development comes later.
Fail proper planning at the first place that leads to this issue.
If this issue had been studied effectively, I don’t think any issue arise today.
Who to blame ask yourself?? You know better…
Make sure we Malaysian will elect future MP “the intellect person with true spiritual heart” that can serve people beyond race and religion.
Currently we always fail to plan and execute accordingly.

I read several posts that MB and State Government fell into a trap.
Why don't think of the other way round - that UMNO fell into a trap?
The MB and YBs demonstrated great courage, sensitivities and desire to resolve the problem in a proper civilised manner.
The predictable response from the mooheads and UMNO goons highlighted all the weakness and attitude of UMNO. It shred any credibility of the ill-fated 1Malaysia. Yes, Najib, your 1Malaysia has been flushed in the drain last Friday and again today. While you may pay lip-service to build a multi-racial progressive country fair to all based on results, those are mere words. The actions of your party members and their inert attitude highlight the mountain you have to climb and the odds are stack against you. Local chieftans such as Khir Toyo and likes have the control.
A sad day for the country when fellow citizens are unable to sit down together and discuss in a civilised manner with respect for one another.
I cannot wait for GE 13 ...

You appear to present yourself as a thinking fellow, but please look again at what you have written. 'membuat kacau, minum arak dan mengambil kesempatan membuat jenayah..'-what right do you have to generalize that hindu temple goers are like this? Do you have the statistics to prove it? If not you are just a racist bigot who has been brainwashed by years of UMNO propaganda.
Can I also say that Mosques and Suraus are frequented by Mat Rempits and so we cannot have Mosques and Suraus near our houses? Think about it!!

Adakah sebab-sebab anda yang menentang pemindahan kuil itu masih munasabah? Sila fikir secara rasional....

http://www.malaysiakini.tv/video/17727/commotion-at-temple-relocation-dialogue.html
The video clearly shows a group of samseng disrupting the meeting. Watch their actions and behaviour. It's only a small group of 5-6 youngsters stirring up the commotion.
Also watch one of the main samseng pulling away the chair of an Indian participant as he was about to be seated and denying his actions! Such samseng will never allow the meeting to progress smoothly.
If somebody could check to see if they are actually residents of Section 23 and also if they are the mat rempits from UMNO.

this people DID NOT WANT TO LISCEND, instead using this dialog session to show off their racism & hatred, using all the 'colorfull' languange that Malay culture did not teach. lost all the 'peramah & bersopan-santun' attitude that become the identity of the malay.
with this kind of behaviour in full view of their non-muslim neighbour, could you espect that the community relation in seksyen 23 will ever be close again???
Could you espect the race relation in malaysia become close again??
what did this people really want?
do they want another May 13 insident, then they will be satisfied???? do they want blood run in they street then they will be happy???

Now you might think 1/3 is a minority but it is large enough to cause disruptions...and the sad part is PR have not figured out a way to solve the issue (and this 1/3 contains elements of UMNO, Pas and PKR - dont think they are only polarised on Umno. The guy who got elected in Selangor who went on the beer rampage is not alone, nor the PKR rep whi intervened the interfaith discussion...and they are backed by people. So please dont think it is a simple issue that we can 'just arrest, throw ISA, etc...'. You dont need a majority to cause chaos - even if 1/5 of the population think the same way we would already be in trouble.
What i've seen here is just further ostracization of these people but not solution!

As rule of the meeting, khalid should have insisted speaker to register with his ic no taken or introduce oneself , give the ic no. and the section 23 address. With this IC number, a check with UMNO membership data bank can be done quickly to root out UMNO goons from outside section 23.
