LUMUT, Sept 6 — Malaysia’s second submarine, KD Tun Razak will begin its journey home on Jan 26, 2010 and arrive here two months later.
Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Chief, Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar said the country’s second submarine was now undergoing second phase trials carried out by its Spanish manufacturer, Navatia in Cartanega waters, Spain.
“The KD Tun Razak is scheduled to be handed over officially to the Royal Malaysian Navy on Oct 25 and begin its journey home on Jan 26, 2010,” he told reporters after the welcoming ceremony for the country’s first submarine, KD Tunku Abdul Rahman (KD TAR), at the RMN Base, here yesterday evening.
The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah and the Raja DiHilir Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, were present at the ceremony which was also attended by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Defence Forces Chief, General Tan Sri Azizan Ariffin.
Abdul Aziz said the KD TAR would be at the Lumut RMN Base until Sept 10 before departing for the RMN Base in Kota Kinabalu at Sepanggar Bay and arriving on Sept 17 for a brief welcoming ceremony by the Sabah state government.
The KD TAR, under the command of Commander Zulhelmy Ithnain with a crew of 35, arrived at the RMN National Hydrography Centre, Pulau Indah in Selangor on Thursday after a 55-day journey from Toulon, France where it was built. — Bernama
