UPDATED
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 — Bowing to public pressure, the government is expected to charge the cow head protestors under the Sedition Act and for illegal assembly.
The Attorney-General Tan Sri Gani Patail confirmed the charges today.
The protestors are likely to be charged tomorrow in Shah Alam.
A group of more than 50 people said to be residents of Section 23 in Shah Alam had protested recently in front of the state secretariat against the proposed relocation of a Hindu temple to their neighbourhood.
The Malay-Muslim protestors had threatened bloodshed, and stamped on and spat at a severed cow head, in a highly provocative gesture because the animal is considered sacred by Hindus.
Gani said today that most of the protestors will be charged for illegal assembly.
But those who uttered the provocative words and steeped on the cow’s head will be charged for sedition.
“I have decided to charge those who carried and spoke while stepping on the cow head under Sect 4 (1) of the Sedition Act alternatively Section 298 of the Penal Code.
“They as well the other demonstrators will also face another charge under section 27 (5) of the Police Act for illegal assembly,” Gani said in the press statement today.
He said that the police had submitted their investigation papers to him today and he was satisfied there was enough evidence to charge the cow head protestors.
The provocative manner of the protest continued last Saturday, when some residents caused a commotion at a town hall meeting with them, by shouting and heckling at the mentri besar and other state lawmakers until the dialogue was called off.
The state government announced today they had found an alternative site for the temple, just a few hundred metres away from the originally proposed location.

Their brazen confidence is very telling. They clearly show that there is no need to account for their behaviour.

Its about time that this bunch of hooligans be sentenced the maximum jail term by the judge to lock them up from causing further damages to our racial unity.
written by Pakci, September 07, 2009
Now let's see what'll happen in court - much will depend on the DPP and the Judge hearing the cases.
And please don't turn the trial into a mockery ( ie. just for show only)..such as having an inexperienced or someone incompetent to prosecute, resulting in ..(case dismissed / acquited ?)
The world is watching, mind you.

Did Hishamudin visited the "poor lady" who was detained under ISA just because she was "allegedly" complainted about the "noise" from the loud speaker of a mosque? I have full respect to all religions, especially to the Muslim. But I am very sure the Quran didn't teach these bastards to cut a live cow head and walk around as if as they are ALLAH!!!

Sudah bosan lah with all these crap.
If you want to arrest them, just go ahead and arrest them -
No need to inform the rakyat and the protestors -
Don't give signal for them to disappear.

sedition act is too vague but good way for them to escape with a slap on the wrist at the end of the day

I saw a documentry where in a village in India, the head of the village was a muslim, during a hindu festival the head of the village has perform some ritual in the temple. When the reporter asked him can he as a muslim do that. The great leader said " I am a muslim to myself, but I am a leader to my people, by not doing this it does make me a better muslim but will make me a lousy leader". Maybe in another 50 years to come we might find a leader like that in this land. God Bless Malaysia.

On charging them, until they are brought to court to face charges and each one charged with maximum fine or jailed, only then will I believe that Najib's 1Malaysia is a reality. Until then, this is just a "sandiwara" before the Bagan Pinang by-election to show how fair and just are the BN gov.

Shouldn't PR be jumping up and down saying that the use of Sedition Laws are inconsistent with one's right to free speech? They should be lambasting the AG for using such draconian laws on these poor residents who is just expressing their anger!
On the record I don't agree with what was done by the protestors by bringing a cow's head into the issue, but what I don't agree is PR not standing firm on one set of principles!
If you are against Sedition Laws, then PR should state so irregardless the circumstances. If you could cherry pick which laws apply to whom, I would be worried if PR ever becomes the Federal Government.

It has come to pass, with the last by-election. If the Malaysian Indians, don't know it yet, here is the proof. There is no way in hell the Govt. would have prosecuted these Malay hooligans. Unless they have finally figured how important the Indians are to their own survival.
I know the Chinese haven't figured this out yet. The way they treat the Indians in Penang, they definitely haven't figured it out yet. If DAP continues to push the Indians into the ocean, they won't be in power too long. It will be back to the same old back bencher DAP!
But I hope the Indians use this new found power judiciously. Hope they can use it for the betterment of all Malaysians!
Who said there is no power with the minority! Indians have become the swing vote in Malaysian politics. I say it is about time, huh? Time to kick Samy Vellu down the street. Indians really don't need him anymore.
