SHAH ALAM, Sept 8 — Khalid Samad said Umno will pay a price for the actions of the cow-head protestors at the upcoming Bagan Pinang by-election, in Negri Sembilan where almost 20 percent of voters are Indians.
“Nothing can negate the damage that Umno has done to itself.”
While he welcomed the decision by the Attorney-General yesterday to charge the cow head protestors, he questioned why authorities took so long to act.
“It’s ridiculous. This should have been done at the very beginning because their actions were clearly detrimental to the country and contradicts the prime minister’s 1Malaysia motto.”
The Shah Alam PAS member of Parliament said he was not calling for the Internal Security Act (ISA) to be used against the protestors but the sentence handed down to them should fit their offence.
“This will determine if authorities are really serious about tackling such behavior.”
Khalid also continued to accuse Umno for instigating the cow head protest and said the government’s move to charge the protestors will no absolve the real culprits.
On Aug 30, 50 protestors marched from the state mosque to the state secretariat with a severed cow head to protest the relocation of the 150-year-old Hindu temple from Section 19.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the Muslim protestors were from Umno, PKR and PAS, but this claim has been denied by Pakatan Rakyat.
Meanwhile, Khalid said the alternative site being proposed for the temple in Section 23 is next to the Nitto Denko factory and is located about 500 metres from any homes.
The empty factory lot belongs to the Selangor Development Corporation (PKNS) and it was the residents themselves who proposed the new site.
“I don’t think there should be any objections from protestors. If there are, then it clearly shows they don’t want Hindus to have their rights.”
Meetings will first be held with the temple committee before public hearings are held to listen to any concerns from the public.

Let us remember our futures are bound together. Let us ignore and condemn those who try to cause tension and disharmonyamongst the races and religions. The first person that the AG should charge is our Home Minister for patronizing the demonstrators and without further investigation deemed that they were not accountable for the cow head. The about U-turn does not mitigate him from the consequences of the HM of calling a press conference and talking 'nonsense'. The demonstrators were more emboldened when they knew that the HM was supportive of their action. This sets a very ugly precedent and when compared to other demonstrations like Hindraf and Bersih, this is more serious as a cow head is used. Why do UMNO always warn others that Muslims in this country is very sensitive so that they will always find a reason to act against the law? Yes HM should be charged? What say you, AG and IGP.

The new site is an industrial area not suited for a temple and against proper town planning. Why must the state govt cow to the demands of bigotted residents who are obviously misguided by some mischievious politicians. Just do the right thing and nobody can accuse you of poor governance. If the residents want to cause trouble arrest them, the govt has to send a message it no longer tolerates trouble makers who cause racial or religious tension. Even if true, it is totally irrelevant that the cow-head protestors were made up of UMNO, PAS and PKR members. Just because the three major political parties were present does not sanctify or sanitise the event. Even if an association of garden gnomes were present it should not make any difference. Charge them all for sedition and illegal assembly whatever their political affiliations.
The Home Minister should know better than to make such an idiotic remark. It was reported today that the Prime Minister of Taiwan had resigned because of critisism over his Government's slow response in their handling of the typhoon crisis.

Najib jumping at every chance he has on belittling the Selangor state government's handling of the issue (well done Khalid, on dealing with the fracas without losing your head (no pun intended)). In today’s Malaysia the Malay / Muslims are given absolute freedom to utter and do anything good and bad about other non Muslims with impunity. The minorities in Malaysia can only dream about the freedom that the majority is enjoying. The abused minorities such as the Chinese, Indian and Borneo natives are expected to take all the abuses and pains in silence. We the victims are not even allowed to cry pain. The Malay / Muslims have effective control of all key Ministries, Armed Services including the Police, the Civil Services and the Judiciary in addition to their special rights. This entrenched unfairness has emboldened the lawless behaviour of those S23 thugs who appeared to be Malay / Muslims and were allowed to protest without hindrance by the Police. The UMNO hierarchy is also in support of these unsavoury characters to serve a political purpose against the duly elected Selangor government. On the other hand the peaceful Indians protesting against the desecration of the Hindu religion by these thugs were harassed and arrested promptly. . The enforcement of laws is blatantly biased and applied to the detriment of the minorities. We the minorities in Malaysia are well and truly the second or third class citizens in our own country. This type of government has to be anti Islam. For the good of Malaysia, I call on all Allah fearing Malays to joint force with the oppressed Malaysians to seek fairness. The only way for us to save Malaysia is NOT to vote UMNO in the next GE.
