KUALA LUMPUR, SEPT 16 — The EGM that will decide whether Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat will be able to remain as MCA president will take place on Oct 10.
The same EGM will also decide on whether his sacked deputy Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek will be able to return to the party.
“The EGM will take place on Oct 10 at 10 am, making it triple 10,” said Party secretary general Datuk Wong Foon Meng today.
Wong also announced that the party’s annual general meeting (AGM) has been postponed indefinitely.
Asked what will happen next should the party delegates adopt the five proposed resolutions, Wong declined to comment saying “let the delegates make their decision first.”
“I hope all central delegates will attend the EGM and make a wise decision and take into consideration the party’s future.”
Wong added that he has not received any appeal from Chua.
The former deputy president had until 5 pm today to appeal his sacking to MCA’s central committee but has decided not to, saying he will let his fate be decided by MCA delegates at the EGM and derided central committee members as “yes-men” who would simply endorse the presidential council decision.
“I will leave it to the wisdom and maturity of the delegates,” said Chua.
When contacted and asked whther he would appeal, Chua was unable to give a response as he was in the middle of a function.
Wong will send out the notice of EGM to the 2,377 central delegates before 5 pm today.
The EGM will take place at MCA’s headquarters at Jalan Ampang.
Wong also said that he had taken into account the Muslim Hari Raya holidays, the mooncake festival, the Federation of Chinese Association’s AGM, and the Bagan Pinang by-election when deciding the date.
Polling for the Bagan Pinang by-election is on October 11 but Wong said the EGM would not affect it.
Supporters of Chua had initiated their EGM campaign the day after the former MCA deputy president was sacked by the presidential council for tainting the party image via a sex video scandal that was exposed two years ago and for which Chua had resigned all party and government posts.
Four days later, Ong had called his own EGM but the two EGMs were merged with mutual consent on Monday.
The proposed resolutions to be presented before the MCA general assembly at the EGM are:
1. That the members of the General Assembly have no confidence in the leadership of the current president of MCA Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
2. That the decision of the Presidential Council of august 26 2009 (accepting the recommendation of the disciplinary board) and the subsequent decisionof the central committee (if any) to expel or suspend Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek from membership of the MCA is hereby annulled.
3. Following from the passage of resolution (2) above that Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek be rightfully restored to the position of deputy president of the MCA.
4. That if by the time this EGM is called, any appointment has been made by the central commiteee in accordance with the constitution of the MCA of any party officials mentioned in article 20 of the constitution of the MCA including that of the deputy president of the mca that the said appointment(s) be and is hereby revoked.
5. That if by the time the egm is called any disciplinary action is taken against any or all of the requisitionists by any member of the MCA or by the disciplinary board, the central committee or the presidential council or if any sentence has been meted out against one or more of the requisitionists that the general assembly do hereby resolve
