PETALING JAYA, Sept 16 – The special committee tasked to investigate the collapse of Jaya Supermarket in May has identified the causes of the incident, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said.
He said that the report on the matter was submitted to the cabinet today.
“We are taking the necessary actions against those responsible for the incident,” he told a news conference.
He declined to elaborate but said that several recommendations were also included in the report, particularly on the procedures and proper methods of demolition for different types of buildings. The committee comprises senior officials of several ministries.
The Jaya Supermarket, which was being prepared for demolition, collapsed on May 28, killing seven Indonesian workers. The stop work order at the site was still in force. – Bernama
