KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 – Datuk M. Kayveas wants Datuk Seri Najib Razak to sack Senator Datuk T. Murugiah as a deputy minister in the prime minister’s department.
The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) president does not understand why Murugiah is still in the Cabinet when he does no belong to any party.
“I don’t care what happens to him. What do you want me to do? As far as he is concerned, he is a non-member of the party. I don’t see why he should be kept there. He doesn’t represent PPP, doesn’t represent anybody,” he said.
However he added that it was for Najib to decide on Murugiah’s position.
“Let the PM decide when he wants to remove him. It is only a matter of time when PM wants to remove him,” he said.
The PPP president and Murugiah were locked in a fierce struggle for control of the minor Barisan Nasional (BN) party .
Murugiah convened an emergency general meeting at which he was voted in as the new PPP president. Kayveas, in response, sacked him from the party.
The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has decided that Kayveas is the rightful president based on the elections of PPP’s 2005-2010 supreme council members on Oct 2, 2005.
Kayveas explained that PPP is no longer concerned with Murugiah as he is no longer a party member.
“Honestly, it doesn’t matter to us because we are peaceful now. We don’t have problems. ROS has already allowed us to continue functioning, we have submitted everything to ROS,” he said.
He also claimed that supporters of Murugiah have asked to be permitted to return to the party.
“There are two or three that held positions but not many. There is only one branch with five divisions that are interested,” he replied when asked how many were planning to return.
