KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 – Three men staged a daring bank robbery in Taman Segar, Cheras, here and escaped with RM100,000 cash after gunning down a security guard in cold blood.
During the 3.55pm incident, three men with full-faced helmets and armed with a pistol, shot a security guard twice in the chest before entering the bank which was just about to close for the day.
Kuala Lumpur CID Chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said during the robbery, there were three bank staff and three security guards in the bank.
“One guard was stationed at the entrance of the bank while a staff was behind a counter, two other guards and two bank staff were at the back portion of the bank.
“One of the assailants fired twice at the guard stationed at the entrance while another rushed inside and ordered the staff behind the counter to place money inside a bag.
“Realising that there was a robbery in progress, the two bank staff and two guards decided to hide themselves,” said Ku.
He added that the guard who was shot in his chest twice, died on the spot.
“Though the guard (Adi Faizal, 27) was armed with a pump gun, he could not react quickly when he was shot,” he said adding that the body was later sent to the Kuala Lumpur University Hospital (HUKM) for post-mortem.
Ku said one of the robbers took the pump gun and threw it inside a drain before all three escaped in Toyota Vios, believed to have been stolen.
He said police were viewing the bank’s closed circuit TV (CCTV) for clues but could not immediately determine the identity of the suspects. – Bernama
