KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — By consensus, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has failed miserably and squandered Barisan Nasional's historic 2004 mandate because he became a prisoner to Umno. His successor is trying hard to cut free from the party.
Datuk Seri Najib Razak is barely warming his seat as Umno president and prime minister for six months but is already facing the push back from the party warlords even sooner than Abdullah.
Abdullah, or Pak Lah as he was known to all, is on record as the shortest-serving prime minister but served a while longer as Umno president than founding president Datuk Onn Jaafar. The reasons for most Umno presidents leaving office can be eerily similar.
Some say that his fear of what his party felt set in after the 2004 party assembly when he realised that he could not stop the practice of money politics. Others say it was a year into his office when Abdullah succumbed to the wishes of the warlords.
Najib has not had the pleasure of at least a year to run his ideas or stamp his authority on the nationalist Malay party that has won every election since before independence in 1957. His 1 Malaysia remains a slogan, the economy sputtering despite two stimulus packages and the Cabinet is distracted by fractious fights within coalition partners.
The troubles within his ruling Barisan Nasional coalition prompted him to appeal for unity in his first Hari Raya Aidil Fitri message as prime minister yesterday as he sought to regain the initiative to keep the ship together in troubled waters.
His efforts have been in vain.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng paid him a back-handed compliment last week, telling the Financial Times that Najib is better than Abdullah in getting things done.
Even MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, who is facing calls from Umno to step down after a record 11 terms at the helm, has praised Najib in the face of scorn from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who recently ticked off the veteran leader as a liability for Barisan Nasional.
But those platitudes have not made Najib's job any easier, especially as the son of the country's second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein has been a cautious and risk-averse politician since succeeding his father, who died in 1976, in the Pekan parliamentary seat. His only political setback was in 1999 when he won the seat with a 241-vote majority.
Since then, he has grown from strength to strength and took over as prime minister last April 3, promising the end to big government, reforms in the economy and furthering Bangsa Malaysia through his 1 Malaysia concept.
And while he knows that selling equity in government-linked-companies (GLCs) like Sime Darby to foreign investors is the prudent thing to do, Najib is worried about upsetting the Umno ground, calling the deal a speculation and pre-empting a decision when it was reported by The Malaysian Insider.
Similarly, privately he is upset with the action of party members involved in the cow-head demo and has told Cabinet members of the perception that Umno is becoming right wing. But he appears unwilling to haul up the right wingers and recalibrate party to the centre.
Just like Pak Lah, Najib seems content to deliver inclusive sounding speeches on the national stage but is wary of hitting too hard at the party base.
But without a doubt the warlords are fighting back. They don't think much of 1 Malaysia, were upset that Datuk Idris Jala was appointed to the Cabinet and showed their true colours at the recent by-election in Permatang Pasir.
Several Penang warlords sent word that their support can only be guaranteed if they were put back on the gravy train of contracts. The choice of candidate was also dictated by warlords despite his disbarment being an issue in the Permatang Pasir vote.
The Bagan Pinang vote on Oct 11 will be a key test of Najib's success to turn the party to do his bidding. He might get them to accept a bigger base to vote in party officials but finding the best candidate for elections seems to remain at the hands of the warlords.
If they continue to hold the party to ransom, Najib could go the way of Pak Lah — both men trying to save a party from itself but remaining a prisoner to its desires. But Najib must not fail or Umno and its allies will, in the next general election.

It has never happened in the history of democracy that a party revitalised itself while still ruling. It will not happen in Malaysia either.

The trouble with TAAB was he got too comfortable with the luxuries that come with the PM chair that he "slept' too long on the job and woke up with a spliiting headache and to a nightmare fruitlessly trying to control the damage inflicted by these Umno warlords on Umno, MCA, MIC and Gerakan. These Umno warlords got too arrogant and acted with impunity telling the country that Umno needed no one to run the country and those who dont like it can get the hell out of their country of birth. Racial taunting, blatant corruption, cronyism and nepotism got on with a new dimension under TAAB and the country was cruising on auto control, some even said remote control as he was always travelling around the world somewhere on some official business and forgetting his promises in his election manifesto to reform the country administration to the rakyat. Then we had little mullahs and little napoleons under TAAB administration furthering alienating a section of the rakyat with their own interpretation of official policies.
Najib must understand that the country and Malaysians have changed so much these past half decade that the people demand a fair, responsible and accountable govt. So far we have not seen firm actions coming from him to deal with these Umno warlords but instead speak with a different tongue when addressing different audience on his 1Malaysia concept. His 1Malaysia concept is in dander of going the way of TAAB's Hadhari Islam. Najib has his job cut out for him ie to reform Umno and implicitly the component parties of BN would follow suit. The more Umno become malay centric pandering to the self interests of these warlords (and not nation centric) in its posturing and actions the faster MCA, MIC and Gerakan will be erased from the face of Malaysian politics and once these senior partners are gone so would Umno. Then there is no guarantee that East Malaysian BN component political parties and more importantly the voters wont revolt like us in Peninsular

Since then- we have BMF scandal, MACC, AminahC4, Kugan, Teoh Beng Hock, PKFZ etc and list goes on putting Malaysia behind other nations over the year in justice, progress and development. As long as BNs is still around, the shits will continue. Hope we have Nizar, Zaid, Nik Aziz, LKS, Gobind or any other capable soul to lead us out of this current shit.

If need be seek dialogue with PK for true 1Malaysia or better still built a Malaysia for Malaysians platform which will go very well with the Rakyats throughout our Nation EAST & WEST.Work for the TRUE MALAYSIANS not those who were added just for the numbers. The son of soils whose forefathers came to this land to built it through their sweat and blood should not be marginalised because of their race & religion but appreciated for their sacrifices.
Bapak Malaysia TAR's vision and dream must not left in the back burner even though Mahathir tried hard during his 22 years reign to demolished the memory of our beloved TAR
YOU, Najib, have the power to turn back the clock to create a MALAYSIA that Tun Jaffar,TAR,your FATHER,Dr.ISMAIL,TUN HUSSEIN aspire to have. You owe it to that generation and the generation after the loss generation created by Mahathir to fulfill our MALAYSIAN DREAM.

How to deal with the warlords and in-fighting? Warlords? They are little puppies. First cut off the money link. No money no talk is equal to no money no incentive to shake the Government. We don't mind that the money goes to the deserving poor. All Malaysians will support this move. Next, put a relentless pursuit on fraud and corruptions. The little puppies are completely cornered. The jails are waiting for them if they dare. There is no other way except the right way which all Malaysians has a responsibility. It will be Malaysians, not the PM, against the little puppies.

So, what we have here is another PM doing a tip-toe in terms of "reform"; is he better than Pak Lah? Personally, I don't think so. For eg, the formation of a "super task force" on the PKFZ is reminiscent of Pak Lah's penchant for forming committees - all of which were no more than opportunities for bureaucrats to sit down together from 3pm - 5pm & have karipap & tea financed by the Rakyat.
I'm sorry, but Najib cannot reform the country, not when he has big baggages. It appears to me that the warloads like to put in a weak guy (ala Pak Lah) or a guy with dirt on his record( ala Najib), so that they can pull his strings from behind (remember the poster for the movie The Godfather?)
At best, Najib is a PR guy. Maybe if he didn't have the kind of baggage he has, just maybe, he could initiate reform.
But we now that's just wishful thinking

Create a new party based on an ideology (perhaps one that one day might even be relevant to non-Malays) and hold people to it. And then engineer a split - the Real UMNO can split away and form their own wing. There will be a power struggle and the New UMNO might be able to form Gov with PR and leave the Real UMNO in opposition.

No mandate, no strong principles, no direction, no brains, no sincerity, no credibility.
Najib must realize he does not have a mandate to be the PM but he does not dare to put this to the test.
What is strange is that he somehow feels he can get away by spouting contradictory statements one after another in order to maintain support. All he has done is to demonstrate clearly that he really has no idea what he is doing.
We have Najib at the helm, but that steering wheel he is turning is broken and does not steer!

We used to have have Pak Lah's little Napoleons.
God knows what we had in Tun M's time.
It's frightening to find out that after all the trouble we go through in the elections, the real people who controls the country are these ruffians. What difference does it make who the rakyat votes for? They will still be in the hands of these unscruplous lot.
What say you guys we should do?

Try as they might, one by one, their efforts and attempts to achieve their agendas failed miserably and disastrously.
They are lost for ideas, and are showing signs of desperation; and cracks within UMNO threaten to disintegrate the organisation. An UMNO implosion is not impossible.
A few months ago, just after Najib took over the helm, they were rambunctious, arrogantly confident,
stepping on everyone's toes, blunt, etc., etc.
But now they are silent like church mice.
Suddenly there are no more issues that they are fighting for or voicing about. Suddenly the agendas are no more there. Suddenly they are not fighting anything any more.
Something is wrong within BN-UMNO's folds. Very wrong indeed. And Najib is LEFT ALONE to do all the work and talking. Poor PM.
UMNO's warlords are calling the shots, and holding their leaders by the neck. Damned if they ( the puppet leaders) follow their ( the warlords' ) orders, damned if they don't. By extension, the WHOLE nation is held at ransom by the few individuals and interest groups who are calling the shots.
Just how could the nation move forward when it is held at ransom at someone's whim and fancy?
The leaders (UMNO's) have to kowtow to the demands of the few warlords to win over their favour and support to remain in their positions?
Should we the rakyat, ALL RAKYAT that is, allow such an untenable situation to continue?
Surely there is something we could do to change the situation to our favour and interest? Perhaps it is time to change for the better and institute reforms to neutralise the negative and unacceptable demands of those interest groups and individuals.

UMNO/BN are just incurable & beyond repair, we prefer to change to a completely new political alliance (PR) which is a much better solution than to change/reform UMNO.
This is now the rakyat's general perception

* “Badawi failed but was not a failure” (Bigjoe)
* Pak Lah failed, Pak Najib to follow. (Wornout slippers)
* Except Tunku Abdul Rahman, the 1st PM, most of the PMs (have) failed. (Zamic J)
Hey, didn't Pak Lah have one great attribute and astounding success?
The courage to confront his old master when no one dared!
Whoever had imagined in his wildest dreams that Pak Lah would be the brave one to do that?
However, lest man grabs the credit for his phenomenal success, there is great wisdom from the ages from the ancient world that is applicable in our Malaysian-setting:
“The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.”

The detoriating of Ringgit versus others major currency is enough to tell what the hell is going on within Malaysia no matter how rossy the PM painted it.
Daily needs are getting more and more expensive and Inflation is unavoidable.
Very soon we on par with Zimbabwe.

mix these with the volatile and explosive elements of race and religion
..you have a sure recipe for disaster
a political system operated and sustained on the largese and spoils of
patronage and dividend, without respect and regard for the rule of law can never succeed in the long run;the country will be left in ruins
history has many examples of such failures
..marcos, suharto, amin,mugabe
but never say never
if najib has determination, tenacity and discipline to destroy and reconstruct
the current feudalistic extremist and racist umno
there is hope for future
otherwise 2020 will see a third word malaysia

like football at time defenders are more important than other team members...but Dato Seri Najib at times you need strickers to score against your opponent team..ALWAYS remember do not let any of your team member becoming a traitor and intentionally [at the pretext of mistake] passing a sensitive ball to your opponent players... 2nd HALF: Najib's Team may be in a not so favoured possition as the PR and Dr Mahthir are supporters of your opponent...cheering for opponent or creating havocs during the game.. RAKYAT'S ADVICE to Dato Sri Najib : 1. be calm and assessing the data before any move. 2. after assessing the sitiution, be fast, shoot down your Ball polishing opporturnist so called strong supporters..eg. few ministers who are always making themselves to be seem as obvious stong supporters.. who even stole the PKFZ papers and passed it to bloggers. 3. Assessments is very important but it is very easy and simple here. Those whose try to confused you and twisting your 1Malaysia policy are to be questioned by you personally. Show them you are in control of the Cabinet. 4. Fire the traitors put them to trial in the Court of Justice
written by UMNO OTAK, September 22, 2009
That call trust & respect. PM do you have the guts to do wat it takes. History remembers who have the guts & believe in themselves. the ball is at your feet for now...... time is ticking.
We dont need UMNO ! wat we need is someone who is sincere to ensure our & your children future.
