Ice-cream vendor killed in fight over girlfriend

PENANG, Sept 24 – A gang fight over a woman, who had allegedly cheated on her boyfriend, led to the boyfriend beaten to death in Bayan Lepas early today.

In the incident, ice-cream seller Wan Ahmad Faizal Wan Abdul Rahman, 33, and a friend were attacked near a shopping complex by a 10-man helmet-wielding gang.

Faizal was warded at the Penang Hospital where he succumbed to head injuries at 9.20am, more than three hours after the attack.

His unidentified friend, who suffered head and body injuries, has lodged a police report.

Southwest district police deputy chief DSP Lai Fah Hin said five men were detained at undisclosed locations between 8am and 4pm to facilitate investigations into Wan Ahmad Faizal’s murder.

He said the police were tracking down the rest of their accomplices, adding that the deadly fight could have been motivated by jealousy.

Lai said initial investigations revealed that the victim had an argument with his girlfriend over her  seeing another man.

This eventually led to a fight between Faizal’s group and another led by his rival near the shopping complex about 5.40am. – Bernama
