MARANG, Sept 28 – The problems besetting Terengganu Umno are on the mend as the parties involved were now putting the party’s interests first, said Umno vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
Hishammuddin, who is also Home Minister and Terengannu Umno liaison committee chairman, said although many had held the view that the problems in Terengganu Umno were “beyond repair”, the sincerity on the part of the leaders involved to put aside personal interests was the key to resolving differences that arose.
“I did not see it as a crisis as made out to be by the detractors ... I remained steadfast in my faith that whatever problems, they could be overcome,” he told reporters after chairing a meeting of the committee and holding a gathering with state Umno leaders here today.
Also present were Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said and Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
Almost all the Umno assemblymen and MPs in Terengganu attended the gathering, including those who had been labelled “renegades”. – Bernama
