Three RMAF aircraft to fly students home from Padang

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 – About 300 Malaysian students in Padang, west Sumatra, will be flown home on three Royal Malaysian Air Force C-130 military transport aircraft which are expected to take off from Subang tonight.

Malaysian Students Department director in Indonesia, Dr Junaidi Abu Bakar, Bernama that the students would be brought home simultaneously.

Dr Junaidi said parents should not be unduly worried as the government had taken the necessary measures to bring them home as soon as possible.

Two students were injured, one of them lightly, said Junaidi, who would be following the RMAF mission to Padang tonight.

A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake hit west Sumatra at 5.16pm local time yesterday, with the Indonesian authorities estimating the death toll to be in the hundreds.

The quake also damaged many buildings, including two hospitals and a hotel. – Bernama
