SHAH ALAM, Oct 3 — Kota Alam Shah assemblyman M. Manoharan is completely free of the Internal Security Act (ISA), thanks to the home ministry.
“He was freed by the ministry,” Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar told reporters when asked to comment that Manoharan had left for Tanzania to attend the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) conference from Sept 28 to Oct 6.
He said this after officiating the Crime Prevention Seminar and Exhibition at the Universiti Teknologi Mara main campus here today.
On May 9, Manoharan was released from the ISA, on condition that he report at the Klang police headquarters every Monday, between 8am and 5pm, and be in good behaviour.
Asked when Manoharan was fully released, Khalid said he was unsure. It was previously reported that Manoharan had sought police permission to attend the conference but his request was turned down.
At the time, Khalid had said that police rejected the assemblyman’s request as he was released from the ISA with certain conditions.
The CPA conference is an annual international event attended by state legislative assembly representatives from Commonwealth countries. — Bernama
