KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 – A Selangor state executive councillor’s special aide was among 11 individuals acquitted and discharged by the Ampang Sessions Court here today of taking part in an unlawful assembly in Klang nine years ago.
Judge Hakim Noradidah Ahmad, in acquitting Abd Razak Ismail, 47, special aide to state executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar, and 10 others, held that the defence had cast a reasonable doubt on the prosecution’s case.
The others are S. Pospan Linggam, 64, Md. Ab. Nasir Md Isa, 52,Ahmad Faizal Chek, 32, Mat Dan Hassan,67, Monashofian Zulkarnain Putra, 47, Aida Idris, 43, Muhamad Tarmizi Abd Rahman, 48, Sahri Bahari, 50, Mohamad Salim Laidin, 51, and Saeden Wateh, 56. They were part of a group of 125 people detained in Jalan Kebun, Klang, on Nov 4 and 5, 2000.
They were charged with two counts of participating in an unlawful assembly at Km21 and Km28.2 of the Kesas Highway from 2pm to 7pm on Nov 5, 2000, and defying police orders to disperse.
Nineteen prosecution and 15 defence witnesses were called in the trial.
Deputy public prosecutor Roslan Abu Bakar appeared for the prosecution while the 11 were represented by counsel Yusmadi Yusoff. – Bernama
