KUANTAN, Oct 6 – A teacher's defamation suit against the principal of her school, which was to be heard by the Sessions Court here today, has been postponed to Nov 5.
Judge Hassan Abdul Ghani set the new date after a representative from the Attorney-General's Department said his side needed to time to file an affidavit-in-reply.
Rozilah Abdullah, 37, a teacher at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Mahkota in Jalan Gambang here, had filed the suit through the law firm of Messrs Balkhis Alias & Co at the Sessions Court registrar's office here on Aug 12 and had named the principal, Aluwiyah Osman, as the defendant.
She claimed that on July 24, the principal had accused her of insurbodination in front of her peers and later lodged a report against her with the District Education Department, which resulted in her being called in to be given counselling and not given a salary increment this year.
She further claimed that she was not given an opportunity to defend herself and that news about this matter became common knowledge among school principals in the Kuantan district.
She is seeking RM228,000 in damages. – Bernama
