KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — Khairy Jamaluddin urged Umno Youth members today to abandon its communal outlook and siege mentality, because constitutional provisions did not make Malays special.
He said instead that “it is the performance and achievements of Malays that will determine if we are” special or extraordinary.
“My dream is to one day see local institutions of higher education filled with Malays not because of quotas, but because Malays are there based on merit.
“Whilst we protect the quotas now, let us not forget that they are only supposed to aid us, and not be a lifeline for the Malays unto perpetuity. The Malay vision is not about defending quotas i
ndefinitely, but to stand proud seeing Malays succeed on their own strengths.”
In his first policy speech as Umno Youth Chief, Khairy said Umno should move beyond the comfort zones of a communal party perspective.
He also appeared to be stopping the wing’s practice of pushing the party to the far right, adding that the Malay nationalist party cannot afford to be ideologically inconsistent.
“We are now at a crossroads of our cause, where we can choose to remain on the same path with the same style and methods.
“We can continue with the chest-thumping rhetoric, warning other races never to challenge this or that,” said Khairy to some 800 Umno Youth delegates.
“This option is easy, and may promise a measure of popularity within the party. But, we must ask ourselves, is this what Malaysians — Malays included — really want from Umno,” he added.
Khairy who won the Youth chief contest despite facing two opponents who were campaigning for Umno to be more exclusive, also told the wing’s delegates to embrace Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s message of unity.
“In this new context, do we want the President to speak about a transformation — removing barriers between races and communities — whilst Umno Youth stubbornly refuses to change, and instead, continues to voice something different from the President?” asked Khairy.
However Khairy said that Umno Youth will not abandon the Malay agenda but at the same time will assume the responsibility of leading other races too.
“Some may wonder if we should fight for other communities if they question our position as Malays. It is here that our leadership credentials will be tested,” he said.
“As the group of people given the responsibility and privilege to lead, Malays cannot simply follow the common beat — that would not be leadership. Instead, as leaders, Malays must rise above and go the extra mile,” he said.
He also called on Umno Youth leaders to get rid of their siege mentality and to look beyond Article 153 of the Federal Constitution that guarantees the special position of the Malays, adding that it is almost impossible to remove the constitutional provision.
“I speak of a generational challenge because for too long, Malays and Umno have been caught in a mindset that is negative and overly defensive,” said Khairy.
“We feel as though we are constantly under siege, and all our efforts appear to be channelled towards protecting the Malay special position. I urge Malays, beginning with the youth, to get out of this siege mentality,” he said.

If they willing to drop ketuanan issue, quotas and etc... and show or proof by implementing and action(not just talk only), with intention to unite Malaysians, there are much thought to be done by voters in next GE.
To reaffirmed the situation further, they must erradicate corruption quickly, with good plan and reprimanded those caught with heavier penalties(nab 1 or 2 high profile person to show seriousness). Elected representative with tinted image must be dropped after 1 term, with objective to have a clean goverment.
Not forgetting, police, justice and media. They should be made neutral. Many action and decision are one sided. Logically sometimes, government or human do make mistake sometimes too. The media reporting and not natural (macam buat2 saje)
Just take a good look at PKFZ scandal case. Government keep quiet until opposition push for it. If opposition did not raise, will the government take initiative to probe. One will wonder, how efficient does the goverment auditing mechanism? Why cannot detect fraud or etc. Does that means many other cases happen goes un-notice.
As far as current public perception are concern, there are still many cases under the carpet. And government just don't bother.
Setting up KPIs team is good, but still cannot see the progress. Rakyat would want to see some nabbing action, to be convince that the teams are serious with their job and responsibility that worth tax payer money. Rakyat do not want to see cases turn into NFA, not enough evidence, excuses after excuses......
Last but not least, agreed to Tun Mahathir on his blog on islamic issue.
Frankly, many do not understand and interpret it differently.
Even the Ulamas and islamic scholars or gurus of different countries, still their views are different.
Mis-interpretation, scaring tactic, uncomfortable situation, taking advantage of poor knowledge and etc...
This is another issue where government should come in, to solve and build a strong 1Malaysia.
Love multi-racial, multi-cultural and peaceful Malaysia.

Do you really truly want the Malays to be truly humans like anybody else?
Why stop short of a free mentality by declaring that a Chinese or anybody can be the Prime Minister of Malaysia, instead of a siege mentality by saying that the Malays should also lead other races ?
Why is it impossible to change the constitution when you said the Malays should change and rise above a siege mentality. How can you changed when you really doesnt want to?
Again its just a cheap talk from you.

However, like all brilliant people, he may unintentionally sideline the less smart, and as a result be labeled abrasive and the likes. This call of ending the "siege mentality" is in direct opposing view of his several years ago in Rembau, I think, when he positioned the Chinese as the Bogeymen; Malays don't unite, the Chinese shall take advantage.
KJ has the smarts and will be good for M'sia. Pak Lah was a very useful relation but also provided an equally strong disadvantage. Stay on course and please exercise lots of patience {a little time to think thru before reacting}. True talent can never be suppressed. I think some wise fella said that.

I must admit that Malaysians are extraordinarily naive!
I just wonder how anyone can still believe what any UMNO/BN politician says!
Does anyone knows or realises that these are the trouble makers who told the Malays that they have not only lost the economic edge but also the political edge as well. And that only UMNO/BN can "struggle" for them? Struggle? Most probably, they are struggling on how to divide the loot! Your tax money!
Also, have you all forgotten about the keris waving incidents at their previous AGM?
Have you forgotten all the scams and scandals that have dogged this country for the past fifty over years?
You are all so forgiving that you are going to let them pawn the country in which every CITIZEN has a stake?

Let us NOT hear from this or other very top UMNO leaders themselves who would time & again 'threaten' other races in order to maintain their hold on Power.
Only the BN component parties are fearful of UMNO's predictable rhetoric. Why? What else but position & monetary gains.
As an ordinary Malaysian, i react to all those UMNO's 'threats' with Disgust & Contempt!!!
Oh Yes, i am now a senior citizen, and i am going to tell my children, my children's children, NOT to trust this party called UMNO IF you continue with your nonsensical speeches and acts.

But wait a minute? No mention about corruption? Not a word of anguish re: politik rasuah? No remorse for the likes of Isa, Ali Rustam, Khir Toyo, Muhammad Muhammad Taib - and of course - Khairy himself - that continue to exist within the UMNO circles?
Hmmm. What's missing here? Talk about change, but do not wish to address the crux of the issue that's needed to bring about change & reform - and that is to get serious with corruption.
You know what? This kinda reminds me of the time when one Dr Mahathir made friendly overtures to the Chinese educationists, in hope of their support in the 99 GE. And once they'd given that support, the Old Man went on to label them "communists".
That's the UMNO we're talking about.
PS - Any action on Awang Selamat ah?

The begging bowl and the gravy-train methodology of nation's assets and resourses stripping by a certain class of people , to name just a couple of issues.
The dictatorial governance with the implementation of ISA and MACC as two supporting stooges makes one wonder who are they trying to fool? Well they may fool most but not all.
President Obama indicated by doing business with Indonesia. This tells us and singapore that we are but second=rate governance and one without credibility nor values the basic human rights of its own tax-paying citizens.
The same people who pays these civil servants for honest and respectful governance.
I thought we were 1Malysia when we got our Merdeka.
Independence for the nation Malaysia and its citizens.I did not see Malaysia consisting of 3-4 parts, comprising of foreign people from malay archepelago, china, india and others. We inherited 1 Malaysia.
Our so called leaders deliberatly divided and ruled in order to keep its people subservient, fearful and paranoid of each other.
Provide fear amongst the people and this weakened mind-set gives those at the top the opportunity to plunder amongst themselves....chinese,indian and malay elite.
The poor and unfortunate will get a few hand-outs here and there which to my calculation are theirs in the first place but given to make its poor citizens even more subservient and down-trodden.
So we are in their calculation and good governance protecting the malay interests.
We I do not see the Malays of the common people prospering.
One did not have enough money to buy chillies for Hari Raya as observed first-hand.
