KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — Delegates from Kelantan and Kedah attacked government-linked companies (GLCs) at the Umno general assembly today for failing to promote Umno’s policies.
“Many from the Malay community have been successful in becoming bureaucrats, technocrats, scholars and entrepreneurs. But unfortunately not many appreciate the opportunity provided through Umno’s struggle.
"There are even some willing and brave to attack us in the open,” Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar from Kelantan told the assembly at PWTC.
He said that due to this many Umno members had been victimised at their workplace because of their beliefs.
“Umno members have been victims in government offices when their heads are traitors.
"Some of the Umno members in GLCs have also become victims and are not given promotions and other benefits because their leaders are not with us,” Noor Zahidi added.
Kedah delegate Datuk Md Rozal Shafian accused GLCs of sidelining the government’s efforts in helping Bumiputeras by giving big contracts to foreign companies.
Noor Zahidi warned Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be careful with the GLCs.
“On television, I saw many GLC bosses going to the prime minister’s constituency. Last year, they went to the prime minister’s constituency and gave a lot of zakat. I kept wondering if all of the residents in the constituency are poor.
"I think the work of GLCs is only to be sycophants of the prime minister,” Noor Zahidi said to the applause of the crowd.
