KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali today admitted that new Indian party Makkal Sakthi's alliance with the Barisan Nasional had resulted in the party losing the support of the non-Malays in Bagan Pinang.
In its first by-election defeat in the peninsula since Election 2008, PAS’s Zulkefly Omar lost the Negri Sembilan state seat by 5,435 votes. Last year, Umno only won Bagan Pinang by 2,333 votes.
The Islamist party also lost all 19 polling streams. It won five in Election 2008, four of which are dominated by non-Malays.
“In a way Makkal Sakthi affected our share of non-Malay votes and the announcement that the party was endorsing BN,” said Mustafa in an interview.
The Makkal Sakthi Party led by former Hindraf leader RS Thanenthiran was launched during the Bagan Pinang campaign and officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in his attempt to look for new Indian ally, after MIC lost the support of the community.
“We cannot just dismiss them, they have decreased the support to Pakatan Rakyat (PR), not just PAS,” said Mustafa when presenting his findings from the campaign.
He is also aware of claims that many members of the Makkal Sakthi Party are from the PAS supporters’ club.
When asked whether the party will hasten the move to formalise the role of non-Muslim supporters in PAS, Mustafa said the matter has to be carefully assessed.
“PAS’s core supporters is still the Malays, the discussion whether we should have full membership for supporters has to consider this factor, whether it will affect this core group,” said Mustafa adding that the plan to form the non-Muslim wing in PAS is in the pipeline.
Mustafa however dismissed the suggestion that various controversies involving the Selangor PAS chief Datuk Hasan Ali had affected the party’s campaign in Indian areas.
Hasan, who is also a Selangor executive councillor, had tried to ban the sale of beer in convenience stores in Malay majority areas, empowered mosque officials to act as moral police and also criticised the state legislative special committee, Selcat’s investigations against senior civil servants.
“In Permatang Pasir, Selangor issues were also brought up but it didn’t affect our campaign,” said Mustafa pointing out DAP’s strong presence during Bagan Pinang.
He admitted that the party did not expect to be badly defeated at the recent Bagan Pinang by-election but was quick to add it cannot be used as indicator for both Barisan Nasional (BN) and PR.
“I didn’t expect that big majority, I thought we could maintain or reduce the majority,” said Mustafa, who used to head the party’s election department.
But the PAS veteran strategist warned that the by-election where Umno fielded local strongman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad cannot be used as a benchmark.
“Similarly, Pakatan Rakyat cannot be complacent by making excuses that we can afford to lose this one,” said Mustafa.

Formula Barisan Nasional masih baik lagi kerana UMNO bukan Islam extreme macam PAS.
Terima kasih selamat sejahtera......

As an Indian myself, all I can say of my community is - Indians are a bunch of ungrateful people and easily swayed by sweet talking politicians and money. You can do a 100 things for them but end of the day they will only remember 1 thing you have not done for them. If the Kg Buah Pala folks sit and ponder upon themselves - the land they were staying do not belong to them. The claim to have stayed on that piece of land for generations and as such should be compensated etc. It was not the fault of LGE that the land was sold but the political allies of BN blamed it on LGE's government for the so-called transfer of title. Though LGE lodged reports with MACC of the irregulaties of the land sale - he still "thick-faced" himself to negotiate with the developers and secure a house for these folks. These folks should ask - did the MIC or MSP or even UMNO (whom they ran and licked the feet) helped them. MIC came danggling RM3m and wanting to buy the land from the state government knowing very well the land cost more than that and the state government has got nothing to do with it. If MIC was sincere, use that RM3m to help the folks of Kg.Buah Pala resettle again - did they do it - no and the folks are not blamming MIC for it. In fact MIC's representative was full aware of the sale of this land during the tenure of Gerakan's rule in Penang. This piece of news was never translated to the folks there. Then comes Hindraf - claiming to champion the same folks only to confuse them more to legal suits. Lastly, we have the MSP - championing their lip service. The folks ran to UMNO during the Permatang Pasir elections - what happened? UMNO said they will look into the matter and even called a meeting with the developer - did they do anything? Nothing and the meeting was like a two buddies who lost contact reaching back to each other and nothing transpired. The folks will never blame the UMNO for fear but they pick on soft-hearted man like LGE, Ramasamy and Rayer. But the sad part is, LGE and the DAP with Anwar was their punching beg. For being grateful for the efforts of LGE, the folks targeted him and ridiculed him in all ways. This piece of mis-information was what turned the Indians in other parts of Malaysia against Pakatan and PAS. So to say MSP is the factor to divert the attention of Indians to support BN is an overstatement.

1. Non-Muslim wing (if ever it is established) and PAS extreme Islamist ideology cannot co-exist – rakyat cannot be fooled by such political seduction because PAS can easily ignore or even jettison its non-Muslim wing from the party once it has achieved its bigoted and un-Malaysian political agenda (assuming it succeeds in wresting Federal power from Barisan Nasional)
2. PAS is causing political havoc for its Pakatan Rakyat (PR) partners’ goal of achieving its political ambition of governing the country for the first time ever, and introduce a two-coalition political system (with its healthy check-and-balances) – PAS must quickly and sincerely abandon its bigoted religious stance if it ever hope of regaining the trust and support of non-Muslims
3. Pragmatic and middle-ground Barisan Nasional (BN) is likely to win back more non-Muslim support going forward, provided PR parties (especially PAS) continue to fumble and fight each other, BN can continue to sincerely implement a “1-for-all Malaysian and all-for-1Malaysia” policies, rakyat can tangibly and meaningfully feel the fairness, justice and benefits of reforms, trust of the NGOs is gradually regained and a cooling-off period and resolution for troubled BN component parties occurs.

Simple facts, one must be there whether rain or shine and not just during election periods. It must be long terms effort.
Secondly, must not confine to one community. Person/party must be fair to all community and mix-society.
Thirdly, adopt open concept, tolerance and down to earth community service.
Sadly, few mistakes done on implementation that force certain groups to pull away. Like bull dozer and not looking at "Jalan tengah".
But, grey area still the “undi pos”. Need a transparent and open system to improve convince everybody.

So Mustafa Ali, stop blaming outside forces when it is actually the distrust of PAS's motives that drives them to Umno. Even if UMNO is corrupt it is better then under an Islamic regime. The people has to choose between the two evil. In this case, UMNO won.

stop bickering on non issues and small trivial issues like trying to impose what they think is God's views on others.
Perhaps Hassan Ali is UMNO/BN trojan horse in PAS.
PAS youth has to fight big fights on corruption, misuse of power, and think of strategies to improve the economic lots of every Malaysian. Stop harassing others and self appointed moral police. Can PAS rise to the challenge?

The fact is people in BP know and are very comfortable with Isa. Here is a man who is humble and accessible to the people. They have years of history with the man that no weeks of campaining going to change. So he got charged for money politics. Well, that was started by DSAI when he was in UMNO. So, if DSAI can have a second chance, why not Isa? Or it does not work for UMNO people?
