KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein called the Malaysian citizenship the highest form of gift awarded by the government, saying it was not a right that can be claimed by any party.
He said although the ministry’s key performance indicator (KPI) is to hasten delayed citizenship applications, it did not mean every application would be approved.
“The ministry would only deliberate applications that have fulfilled all the required conditions set under the constitution, and applicants have to go through a rigorous process to ensure only those qualified will be given citizenship,” he told Parliament.
In replying to Kanowit MP Aaron Ago Anak Dagang , Hishammuddin said the ministry has received 3,640 application from those born in Malaysia for citizenship from 2000 to 2006, but only 1,066 application were approved while 2,574 were rejected.
Further, 1,806 applications were approved and 2,223 rejected from 4,029 foreigners applying for citizenship, he added.
In a press conference held later, Hishammuddin said he would announce the KPIs for every agency and department under his ministry next month.
“The KPI is to show that we are serious in delivering the prime minister’s message of performance now, where the people’s desire will be heard,” he said.

It is our birth right. Governments do not make "gifts" of citizenships to qualified citizens. But when the thousands of Indons & Filipinos are served their citizenships on a platter, then that is considered a "gift".

haha... one of my ERP vendor is from India and he was here for the last 8 years and he submited the application for the last 6 years. He is a programmer who working here for the last 8 years and he convert to Islam as well.
Until today, he cannot manage to get PR. He decided to go Singapore.
Malaysia PR just award to those maid but not professional. Just like our quota for university, they award it to those suppose not entitle.

I was born a Malaysian but I was accorded better treatment by a foreign country which I now called home. The problems with these stateless people. they were the ones who dropped Malaysian citizen , some worse tore off the passports. They claimed they are not Malaysians and DID NOT WANT TO BE MALAYSIANS and wanted Britain to give citizenship to them. Unfortunatley, British Govt treat them "macam taik"AND THEIR CITIZENSHIPS NOT APPROVED BY THE BRITAIN. Now, they are stateless asking Malasyia to accept them back. Lu sudah ludah muka orang lepas tu lu mau orang jilat ludah lu. Mana boleh.... I dont like BN but stateless people are traitors...whoever the govt , pls do not accept them. Sure. From the statistics here you will see that more foreigners applicants were approved for citizenship than people who were actually born in Malaysia. Does this stupid minister know what he is talking? Look at the statistics. The rate of approval is so much higher for foreign applicants.

Apply as a foreigner because the chances of getting your application approved is so much better. I am sure if the data is broken down by race and nationality, you will definitely curse the present leaders of this country especially the MCA and MIC who has condoned what the racist UMNO is doing.

My uncle is 57 years old this year. He was born and bred here. He lost his birthcert when he was very young in big flood. Since then he and my mother made many trips the registration department. During the trips to the department, he was interviewed by the officers. Some 'general' questions were thrown to him during the interview. One question asked was "What the name of the building of the Registration Department?" Being uneducated, he was unable to answer. It might be a process to show whether you are 'truly a Malaysian' if you can answer those questions asked. I don't know.
Up until now, he's still holding a RED Mykad albeit repeated visits/applications to the Registration Department. So the question is, how come an Indonesian lady who works here for 5 years can get a 'citizenship' while my uncle who has been staying here for FIFTY SEVEN (57) years since his birth been denied of his citizenship. Is it because he can't speak proper BM or can't answer some question about Malaysia or some building?
Up until now, he's still holding a RED Mykad albeit repeated visits/applications to the Registration Department. For all those were born in this soil and those that came before merdeka should be accorded the right to become citizens of this land. Are you heartless or what?
