KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 – The Home Ministry will announce the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for its agencies and departments next month, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said.
He said the KPI would ensure all agencies and departments would cooperate in handling applications or cases brought to them.
“For instance under the Immigration Department, we want to see how long it takes to process an international passport.
“In the case of addressing crimes, it is not the sole responsibility of the police,” he told reporters at parliament lobby today.
Earlier in the Dewan Rakyat, Hishammuddin said the ministry had targeted to resolve at least 80 per cent of backlogged cases in the applications for citizenship, late registration of birth and entry permit within six months.
Hishammuddin was replying to Fong Po Kuan (DAP-Batu Gajah) who wanted to know whether the government would be able to address the issue.
“The ministry wants to ensure that the KPI is achieved and the backlogged is resolved. This does not mean that all applications will be approved,” he said.
On the backlogged of cases, he said there were 93,360 applications for late registration of birth, 32,927 for citizenships and 16,812 for entry permits.
Replying to Aaron anak Dagang (BN-Kanowit), he said 3,640 applications for citizenship were received involving children.
“Of the total, 1,066 applications were approved while 2,574 rejected,” he said.
A total of 4,029 applications were received from individuals, with 1,806 approved and 2,223 rejected, he said. – Bernama
