Muhyiddin: PR is in crisis and will always be

By Syed Jaymal Zahiid

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was quick to exploit the "admission" made by a DAP leader that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) lacks cohesion, saying today the confession signals the pact's inability to stick together as a unit.

Ipoh Timur MP and DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang had written in his blog posting yesterday that PR has been losing support for the past eight months "because of the failures of its leaders to exercise responsibility and discipline in their respective parties."

Lim further said that PR must work quickly to convince electorates that the pact is cohesive and a common sense of purpose to restore straying voters’ confidence back into its fold.

But with PAS now facing a leadership crisis, Muhyiddin (picture) at a press conference here said voters should heed Lim's admission as a clear sign of PR's irreparable fragility despite various attempts by its leaders to consolidate the pact.

"We have always known that PR parties cannot work together and this is obvious in PR-ruled states," commented Muhyiddin, citing Selangor and Kedah as examples.

PAS had a face-off with the DAP on the relocation of a pig abattoir in Kedah while Selangor was recently hit by an all-round fissure between all three PR parties over the ban of beer sales in convenient stores.

"I am worried that if these states are not taken care of properly, it will ruin everything that (the previous) Barisan Nasional (state governments) had done," said Muhyiddin.

"And at the end, the people will not benefit from all this," added the deputy prime minister.
