KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 – A lawyer and a manager of a legal firm were sentenced to five years' jail and three years' jail, respectively, by the Sessions Court here today for criminal breach of trust involving RM3 million.
Judge Rozana Ali Yusoff handed down the sentence after Rosmaniza Osman, 37, and Rozalind Sakunthala Rajan, 47, pleaded guilty to the offence. She ordered the sentence to be served from today.
Rosmaniza and Rozalind, from the legal firm of Messrs Ros & Associates, were charged with criminal breach of trust involving RM3 million belonging to Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd.
The offence was committed at the legal firm at No W12-C1-Tingkat 12, West Block, Wisma Selangor Dredging, Jalan Ampang here, between March 9, 2005 and July 4, 2005.
Before handing down the sentence, Rozana said the offence committed by Rosmaniza, who was a legal practitioner, did not at all reflect her profession.
“Your clients appoint you because they trust you and paid a fee for your service.
“But, because of your doing, people may lose confidence in lawyers. When they want to appoint lawyers, they will feel unsafe because of wrongdoings like this,” she added.
