KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — The application to exhume the body of dead political aide Teoh Beng Hock will be heard in the coroner's court in Shah Alam on Nov 4.
Lawyer Gobind Singh Deo, who is acting for Teoh’s family in an inquest to find out the truth surrounding his sudden fatal fall three months ago, told this to The Malaysian Insider today.
Gobind had filed for the court order together with a certificate of urgency three days ago.
The Teoh family wants to exhume the body to enable a foreign forensic expert to carry out an independent, second autopsy.
Renowned Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand recently testified in the inquest that Teoh's death was “80 per cent homicide” contrary to the findings of two local hospital pathologists who conducted Teoh's post-mortem and concluded that he committed suicide.
Pointing to the injuries on Teoh's anal region and neck, the celebrated director-general of Thailand's Central Institute of Forensic Science (CIFS) said it signalled a high chance he was sodomised and strangled before he fell to his death.
Dr Pornthip also noted that the extent of Teoh's injuries showed he was unconscious when he fell, strengthening the family's suspicion that foul play was involved.
Teoh, 30, was the political secretary to DAP state lawmaker Ean Yong Hian Wah.
He had been hauled in by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and questioned overnight at their office on the 14th-floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam on July 15.
He was found dead the next day on a 5th-floor landing outside the MACC office. Teoh was due to tie the knot with his pregnant fiancee that same day.
