KLANG, Oct 30 - A hawker who sells sugarcane juice was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with the murder of Indonesian maid Mantik Hani.
A. Murugan, 35, was charged with murdering Mantik at his house in Taman Sentosa, Klang, between Oct 18 and 20.
No plea was recorded. He was not represented.
Deputy public prosecutor Manoj Kurup applied to the court to transfer the case to the Shah Alam High Court on Tuesday on the grounds that it was a public interest case.
Magistrate Afifah Mamat@Yusof allowed the application and fixed Tuesday for mention in the Shah Alam High Court.
Mantik, 36, from Surabaya, was allegedly abused and found locked up in the toilet of Murugan’s house and died in the intensive care unit of the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang on Monday.
She suffered multiple injuries on various parts of her body and was rescued by police from the house. – Bernama
