KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 – A 75-year-old lawyer was strangled to death, apparently for not following “orders” from three intruders at the victim’s home in Bukit Damansara here this morning.
Two of the men killed the veteran lawyer M. Thiruchelraegaran in the living room of the house in Jalan Batai about 4am. At the time of the incident, the third man locked the victim’s wife in a room.
Police, as part of their investigations, have not ruled out a more sinister motive behind the murder. They are trying to determine if Thiruchelraegaran’s killing was linked to a bankruptcy hearing involving a company, which he had been scheduled to attend.
“While initial investigations reveal that Thiruchelraegaran was strangled by the intruders for not following their orders, we are also checking whether the murder was linked to the court hearing,” said city CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah.
On the break-in, he said the intruders had used three shovels to force open the door. They ransacked the house and took away the victim’s jewellery before escaping.
Thiruchelraegaran’s body was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination. – Bernama
