Kelantan, Terengganu on weather red alert

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 – The Meteorological Department has upgraded its weather warning for Kelantan and Terengganu to “red” as at 4pm today.

In a statement, the department said intermittent and sometimes heavy rain would occur over Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Jeli, Bachok, Kota Baharu and Pasir Puteh in Kelantan and Machang, Kuala Krai and Besut in Terengganu.

The situation is expected to persist until Sunday. The red weather warning referred to incidence of tropical storm and strong winds of at least 60km per hour with moderate to heavy rain.

The situation could cause flooding in low-lying areas, the statement said. – Bernama
