KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim wants to transform the state into the information and education hub of the country, and plans to turn Shah Alam into a twin city of the Silicon Valley.
He emphasised today that knowledge should be open and not limited to any race, background or religion.
“Our children must be educated and equipped to ward off negative lifestyles which can poison thoughts (and) that can violate an Islamic or eastern way of life,” he said when launching the state’s “Discovering Our Scholars” programme here.
Khalid pointed out that the programme was specifically to encourage the public to learn of scholars from Selangor through motivational sessions with scholars.
“These are steps to introduce and encourage students to follow the footsteps of scholars so that they can become scholars of the future,” he said.
Later in a press conference, he revealed that the state is in discussion with Silicon Valley to set up an identical facility on 70 acres of land in Shah Alam.
“This is so that the Silicon Valley can twin with Shah Alam. That is the concept so whatever happens in Silicon Valley, we will know in Shah Alam and whatever we have in Shah Alam can be tested in Silicon Valley,” he said.
Education, Higher Studies and Human Capital Development Committee chairman Dr Halimah Ali added that the statement government would be allocating RM500,000 for international conferences, including the Islamic World Academy of Sciences Conference and a conference on education in collaboration with the University of Cambridge.

Even in this day and age, it is embarrassing that we cannot even stream a youtube video properly.
So much for high-tech industrial development!
