PKR Youth calls for Badrul’s resignation

SHAH ALAM, Nov 9 — PKR Youth today stepped up the pressure on Badrul Hisham Abdullah to step down by launching a noisy protest outside the State Assembly.

About 35 protesters carrying banners and a picture of a frog demanded that the Port Klang assemblyman come out of the House to meet them and accept a memorandum.

On Oct 29, the first-term lawmaker quit PKR, citing loss of confidence in the party’s leadership following a recommendation from the Selangor Mentri Besar that he should step down due to his non-performance since being elected in the March 2008 general election.

Badrul then declared he was now a Barisan Nasional (BN) friendly independent lawmaker.

The crowd repeatedly chanted for Badrul to step down, calling him a frog who knew no shame.

However, Badrul refused to come out of the State Assembly and the memorandum was finally handed to Heng Yong Seng, the assistant to the Speaker.

Selangor PKR Youth chief Khairul Anuar Ahmad Zainudin said Badrul should resign if he was really responsible, and give voters in Port Klang an opportunity to choose who they want to represent them.

For nearly two years, Badrul has failed to serve his constituency and, despite many opportunities, failed to improve himself, said Khairul.

Heavy police presence, including the Light Strike Force, was seen outside the gates of the State Secretariat, while many plainclothes personnel were seen in the compound during the peaceful protest, which fizzled out after an hour.

Badrul was seen leaving the State Assembly at about noon even before today’s proceedings were over.

He reiterated that he had already made a statement — that he was now an independent lawmaker who supports BN — and refused to take any questions from reporters.
