KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 — Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar’s wife Datin Kamariah Kamarudin died this morning, according to PAS news portal Harakahdaily.
She died at her home in Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya.
Kamariah, in her 50s, had been suffering from cancer and was treated at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre.
Kamaruddin, the Tumpat MP, is on the way back from Qatar, and is expected to arrive in Kuala Lumpur later this afternoon and the funeral service will be held soon after his arrival.
A PAS secretary-general until last June, Kamaruddin joined the Islamist party in 1998 after the sacking of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from Umno.
He contested the Tumpat seat in his home state Kelantan in the general election a year later and has retained the seat since.
Before the party election last June, Kamaruddin made known his intention not to be reappointed party secretary-general as he wanted to spend more time with his wife.
