KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 – Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan today said those who questioned police action in shooting suspects should consider whether they wanted to support those who upheld the law or the criminals.
He said this when asked to comment on claims that the police had used excessive force in a recent shooting in Klang, where five suspected robbers were gunned down
“The duty of the police is to protect the people. We do not protect criminals,” Musa was quoted as saying by state news agency Bernama.
He said the police did not act indiscriminately but considered public order and shot criminals as the last resort.
He also said that the police also had the fundamental right to self-defence.
“If they (criminals) become aggressive, we are forced to act. They should surrender if they do not want to die. We do not want our personnel to be shot first,” he said.
Meanwhile, Musa appealed for assistance from anyone who had information on the location of private investigator P. Balasubramaniam.
The authorities, including the Immigration Department, constantly monitored the movement of individuals they were looking for at every entry-exit point of the country, he said when asked to comment on a news portal report that Balasubramaniam was back in the country after having “disappeared” since July last year.
Balasubramaniam and his family reportedly went abroad for fear of their safety after he had made a statutory declaration in relation to the murder of Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu.
The police also want to record a statement from the private investigator over a break-in at his house in Taman Pelangi, Rawang, last year.

if you do not support criminals, why is the crime rate still rising?

since when the police has the power to become the judge & executioner???!!

To criticise police is to support criminals? Since when are police infallible when there have been so many reports and personally experienced stories about their failings? What about the cases of rape, abuse and murder that are dragged on or unsolved? What about deaths in detention? What about the violence committed to peaceful candlelight vigilers?

But what's disturbing is that we have ONLY the word of the police that these dead people were, in fact, criminals. And we know just how honest and trustworthy the police are.
Dead men tell no tales, victors write history and all that.
One or two occasions of police returning fire in response to being shot at are fine.
But when you have the same formualic reports from Bernama every two or three days - bad guy always shoots at cops first and always miss, followed by police return fire, and all bad guys dead. Only one case in recent memory where wounded bad guy gets away, only to be caught later, alive.
Not that I wish any of our law enforcers to be harmed but the law of probability tells you it is highly unlikely for all bad guys to be such bad shots all the time. But we'll never know the truth. Or even if they were really the bad guys the cops SAY they were.

I still believe that you are a clean, good cop..I also hold the view that
today criminals are unlike those in the past. These robbers/thieves/bag
snatchers dont care two hoots about human lives, what they want is to
make an easy living and in the process, hurt, harm and on number of
occassions, innocent victims get killed when they hit their head on the road.
Do what you need to do,Tan sri Musa,to reduce the crime rate in Malaysia.
But I dont agree with you that Police should not be questioned, after all,
they are paid civil servants.By the way,Tan Sri Musa,it is time for you to
graciously retire, as in the words of a retired CPO Perak, you are holding
up the traffic.

They used criminals to do their dirty work, hang them when they need a scapegoat. what tricks that we all don't know. If they want to be clean like hong kong police or like any good police force, first thing they must do is stop hiding behind the pillar or trees during the road block. These show how low or cheap they are willing to go. Police car Siren Light is meant to be switch on at night and not to be close and sneak from drivers back .
Malaysian police can't even the see the light and see in the eye directly. They are just a nocturnal bat lurking to suck money from the poor indon, public places where couples are talking etc.

First, there was Hishammuddin who saw a positive correlation between the level of crime and Malaysians criticizing the police for the rise in crime. Now we have the IGP who says that those who criticise the police are supporting criminals. What's next? Perhaps I can susggest a few more nonrational logic that is characteristic of UMNO appointees. How about this: to criticise the IGP is to support the police? Or: to criticise Najib's administration is to support Chin Peng? Or: criticising UMNO's management of the economy leads to a recession? Or: complaining about UMNO's mismanagement of our educational system lowers it quality?
The only logical conclusion I draw from the intelligence of UMNO appointees is that we poor Malaysians are to be blamed for all that is bad in the country because we criticise UMNO too much. Our strategy must be to praise UMNO leaders and then we will see growth in the economy, and the quality of education will rise and and the crime rate fall in the country. May be that is what Najib meant by 1Malaysia - all of us praising UMNO, all of us bowing down and worshipping UMNOPutras so that things in Malaysia will improve.
Wonderful UMNO logic, except for one thing - life doesn't work that way!

Police is God????
We are doomed.
Please everybody dont "question" when police do below action:
1. Asking for bribe.
2. Rudely Manhandle any person as they please.
3. Take someone life as they please.
4. interrogate people brutally.
So we could have a great happy life in this police regime nation. While we living with high criminal rate.

Polis DiRaja CANNOT be questioned ??!!
I fully agree with you that Policemen have a right to self defence. But I DO NOT agree with you that they cannot be questioned. They too come under the law of the country. So don't talk rubbish Mr. IGP. You sound so stupid when you talk like this. Unbefitting of an IGP and a Tan Sri. Malu-lah !!
