KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 — Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin defended the controversial Biro Tata Negara (BTN) courses today as a form of nationalism in line with the 1 Malaysia concept despite growing criticisms of racism and political indoctrination.
The deputy prime minister denied that the courses, which are compulsory for civil servants and public university undergraduates, are aimed at “converting” participants to the political ideology of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN).
His defence of the BTN courses comes a day after the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat (PR) administration moved to bar its civil servants and students from state-owned institutions from the course described as racist and a form of political indoctrination by the federal government.
PR leaders have accused the federal government of using the BTN courses to “brainwash” participants.
It has been reported that participants of BTN courses were repeatedly told of the concept of Ketuanan Melayu, or Malay superiority. Participants are also told not to question “Malay rights” and the “social contract.”
“There are no ulterior motives. These courses are well intended,” Muhyiddin said in Muar today.
He claimed that the Selangor state government had been misinformed and given a wrong impression of the courses.
But his comments today appear to run counter to a proposal by his own Cabinet colleague Datuk Seri Idris Jala to revamp BTN courses in an acknowledgement that it did not promote the 1 Malaysia concept.
The Malaysian Insider had reported last week that the proposal to revamp BTN courses is part of initiatives being pushed by Idris and a task force set up to promote 1 Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Razak's concept announced when he took the top job on April 3.
1 Malaysia is one of several laboratories set up to push through ideas on Key Performance Index (KPI) and National Key Results Areas (NKRAs) that Najib knows will be the tipping point in the next general election.
His ruling BN coalition was badly beaten in Election 2008 under the leadership of former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi when it lost four more states and 82 federal seats to give up its customary two-thirds parliamentary majority.
It was felt the BTN needed a complete makeover to promote inclusiveness.
But Muhyiddin provided a stout defence of the BTN courses today, and asserted that the programmes promoted nationalism and unity.
BTN courses have been running for years, and are intended to instil nationalistic values and patriotism, but are now seen as more of a propaganda unit. The courses are for university students on public scholarships and civil servants. BTN is under the Prime Minister’s Department.
Under the Selangor PR administration's new directives, students at Selangor government-owned institutions of higher learning including Universiti Industri Selangor (Unisel), Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor and Inpens Selangor will no longer be required to go for BTN courses.
Last week, a group of young PR elected representatives urged the Selangor government to stop allowing students to be sent for what they called “brainwashing propaganda” programmes by BTN.
The group of seven PR lawmakers had also said BTN courses — compulsory for local university students and civil servants — taught students to hate and were contrary to their original purpose as well as the Constitution.
Seri Setia state lawmaker Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, speaking from his own experience, said they were told that PKR members were Jewish agents, that DAP was a Singapore party, while PAS was labelled a deviant movement.
Batu Caves lawmaker Amirudin Shari said a big part of the programme had nothing to do with nation building or education but was an Umno and BN race-based programme where participants are indoctrinated with propaganda about “Ketuanan Melayu”.

We were also taught to hate and not to trust the Chinese and Indians and must always remember that Malaysia is a Malay's land.
So please Muhyiddin...be a responsible politician. Dont simply make statements and deny this and that...as if ALL OF US are stupid and can simply swallow your lies. Be honest for once will you. Check you facts first before you start firing you lies.
I dont mind you saying that the Goverment is looking into it an will make necesary adjustments. But to simply DENY everything....that really gets on my nerves.

Furthermore, they forced the non-Muslims to acknowledge that the Malays are the tuan in M'sia & we should just be glad for getting our citizen-ships. We were then asked to take a test answering questions about how great the Malays are & we should not challenge them. Fail the test & we won't be allowed to continue in our respective universities.
I'm a Chinese, born & bred in M'sia. But during the entire BTN, it was nothing but torture & shame. Just like what the Nazi's made of the Jews.

So our DPM "More Hiding" says BTN is not an UMNO propaganda machinery. why don't we give him the benefit of doubt for the time being?
But we dont have much time, less than a week, as he is now busy with working a deal for MCA (7 days).
Get the BTN course materials for public scrutiny quickly now for they might destroy it now with the shredder or declare them as sensitive materials and classify them under OSA.

Instead beating around the stupid bush you have around you, why don't you just show / present the entire BTN program on TV and let the world judge whether the program is what you claim it is - which it isn't!
Comments and complaints about BTN has been made by so many attendees and yet you are still trying to lie your way out of the issue - that the BTN is an instrument that UMNO has been using to drive a big divide between the Bumis and the Non- Bumis, the rich and (insider) Bumis from the majority poor Bumis.
UMNO and BN has since the "rise" of Mahathir allowed their heads to swell to such ginormous size that they now believe that the Sun rotates around UMNO. UMNO has, if I may say so, grown so arrogant that they have dug their own graves and believe me, the "other Bumis" do not buy your crap any more.
"The writing", as people would say, is on the wall and UMNO/BN is all set for another massive Tsunami that will this time bring the unholy union of UMNO and it's stooge partners down. Inshaallah!

Words cannot instil nationalism or patriotism as is sloganeering. We must teach our chidrens to love our neighbours and to take care of them and not to lord over them. With this culture imprinted in their minds at an early age, the future will see only Malaysians and no more Malays, Chinese or Indians and others.

Air mata darah bercampur keringat
Bumi dipijak milik orang
Nenek moyang kaya raya
Tergadai seluruh harta benda
Akibat sengketa sesamalah kita
Cinta lenyap di arus zaman
Indahnya bumi kita ini
Warisan berkurun lamanya
Hasil mengalir ke tangan yang lain
Pribumi merintih sendiri
Kita rumpun bangsa Melayu,
Menganut agama yang suci,
Semangat bangsa berlandaskan Islam,
Teras capai kemerdekaan
Masa depan sungguh kelam
Kan lenyap peristiwa semalam
Tertutuplah hati terkunci mati
Maruah peribadi dah hilang
Dari masa hingga masa
Petualang menghancurkan bangsa
Alatkan agama demi peribadi
Pupus kita di bumi Ilahi
Kini kita cuma tinggal kuasa
Yang akan menentukan bangsa
Bersatulah hati bersama berbakti
Pulih kembali harga diri
Kita sudah tiada masa
Majulah dengan gagah perkasa
Janganlah terlalai teruskan usaha

These courses are well intended. Certainly. Intended to support the government (spelt "UMNO"). How can support for the government be bad?

Its vision as it is stated in its website http://www.btn.gov.my/, and I quote
"Menjadi sebuah organisasi awam yang unggul dalam memupuk semangat patriotisme serta menjadikan rakyat setia kepada Kerajaan."
Notice the last word in the sentence. Kerajaan, literally translates as 'government'.
Meaning, the last part of the sentence is saying "to instill the sense of patriotism (which is a good thing) and to create/make the citizens LOYAL TO THE GOVERNMENT (which is an extremely bad thing)
This indoctrination of loyalty to government is a damming move by the BN government to force the young to be loyal to the government (more particularly towards the BN government). After having manipulated the media to give a strong portrayal that BN is great and all, the young ones will end up becoming sheep being lead by a Shepard to be slaughtered, when instead, the Shepard is suppose to guide the sheep to a safe place and watch over them.
If it is indeed the actual intention for BTN to instill nationalistic ideals, then why include the government? Why is it not about defending and protecting the Yang Di-Pertua Agong and the country? Where did it state in our citizenship that we must defend the government?
I remember when I was in primary school, one of my teachers told my class that if one day Malaysia came under attack by foreign powers, we will need to pick up a weapon and to defend our country from invasion.
Take note of one word in the above sentence. "Country". Not "government".
Even the British say "For King and Country" but never ever you can hear them say "For King and Government".

But that is NOT CORRECT! In this instance, the Govt is the cause of the "scandal" as you mildly call the issue.
The BTN is a downright attempt at splitting the Rakyat. It is aimed at creating hatred and disregard for all non Malays and what's worse it is a clear assault on a specific race of Malaysians.
This is the UMNO Govt we Malaysians have put in place for the past 50 years. This is the government that has grown too big for their heads and is trying to turn Malaysians against Malysians, 'crony Malays" against "non-crony Malays" in the kampongs.
This is the MCA/Gerakan/MIC/PPP etc ad nausem crony slavish component members of our Malaysian govt who ALL know of the BTN and yet do not have the BALLS to tell their Taikor that this is wrong and going too bloody far.
This is the DEVIL we have helped create and feed for the past 40 years - do we vote them in again - EVER? I bet you, even the late Tunku Abdul Rahman (May God rest his soul) will be turning in his grave as he sees his dream of a nation sink to such low levels.
Malaysia is for ALL Malaysians not just the UMNO and their cronies.

When I was in primary, our school had a Muslim headmistress, but she wasn;t of Malay race. Our school flourished in sports, academic as well as racial harmony was prevalent. Then she got married to a foreigner and left, leaving the school in the hands of a Malay Headmaster. The first thing he did was rally for fund and build a surau. Oklah it is for religion purpose. Nothing sinister about it, but what happens within those walls are to questioned. Students are preached and told to hate the ;idol worshippers; the pork-eaters and :sunday worshippers. who these ppl are ..we all know. What is wrong wt that head master?.....Is he given directive from Gomen to distribute these kind of racism?
Now to Secondary..when i was in SMK...we had annual sports day..i was watching a relay race, when some students said " ahhh,,,semua keling hitam yang larilah"..refering to 4X400m that was taking place. This comment was heard by all the teachers but instead of setting the students straight on race relation, these teachers thought it was funny comment. Now.. aren't teachers who should promote racial harmony??? by not telling these students that such comments are unworthy and doesn't reflect Malaysian, they simply endorse racial slurs.,...sometimes they themselves hurl abuse to student who are non-malays.
Now to university....we have BTN, 1Malaysia concept to brainwash.........................i wont be surprised if brain washing starts in national-run kindergarten. My niece who is hindu was told to pray like a muslim and recite the prayer at tea-time....and she was just 3years old when she attended TASKA behind my house......DUH???...prime candidate for conversion????? LUckily we found out and promptly switched kindergarden.
I have only few questions to BN and Malay ultras.....what would u do to make Malaysia truly 1Malay?
This is a race that relay heavily in imported goods that make them Malay...Import number #1: languange and letters, import #2: culture, import #3: system of governance, import #4apartheid, import #5 clothing and finally last but not least, imported religion. A race that don't have any originality about it, but from day 1 in school indoctrinates that Malays and Muslims and especially, Malay Muslims are the best. MY brother is in his 40s, he studied World history, Ancient civilisation, Malaya history....
I am in my 30s..I learn Malaysian history, Islamic history and briefly ancient civilisation....
MY niece is in her teens,,,she is not taught about ancient civilisations, about european revolution and worldhistory is nada..zilch.....she says only Malaysian history and Islamic history is taught now!
Schooltext, NS, BTN, etc etc is bound to make our children stupid.

Thank you Selangor govt for leading the way! Me and my family support is with you all the way.
