KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 — Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the patriotic spirit instilled in the Biro Tata Negara (BTN) course was for all and not just for federal government supporters.
Shahrizat said it was not justified to be apprehensive of the content of the BTN course as the people loved the 1 Malaysia concept.
On Wednesday, the Selangor state executive councillor for Education, Higher Education and Human Capital Development Committee, Dr Halimah Ali said that Selangor state staff and students of its state-owned institutions were barred from attending BTN courses with immediate effect.
The step was taken as it was perceived that the course was an indoctrination process by the Barisan Nasional (BN) created to allegedly draw up racist phenomena, divide races, caused religious tension and provoke hatred of the opposition.
Shahrizat said based on her experience when attending the BTN course there was no racial content.
“The Selangor state government is just making a big issue. I have attended the course and it is all about positive thinking, patriotism and nothing to do with racialism,” she told reporters at a Hari Raya Aidiladha function organised by the Wanita Umno Kepong Division here today.
Meanwhile, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar said the decision by the Selangor state government to bar state employees and students of state-owned institutions of higher education from attending BTN courses was politically charged.
Noh, who is also the Selangor Umno deputy liaison chairman and an Umno supreme council member, said the opposition brought up new issues to deflect their weaknesses.
“Like in Selangor one issue that they raise was their internal issues so that people forget the opposition’s promises in the past general election,” he told reporters after officiating the “Program Korban Perdana Jempol 2009” sponsored by the Jempol Umno Division and the Negri Sembilan Tourism Action Council, at the public field of Raja Alias 2, near here.
Commenting on DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang’s call that the BTN be stopped, Noh said that Lim’s call was as being of a “blind man”.
“Just like a blind man who does not know of what he does not see. How can Kit Siang talk of the BTN course when he has never attended it?” Noh said. — Bernama

Well, I have gone through it, and I can tell you that I was horrified at the racial and political propaganda being preached there.

Maybe , the course that Sharizat attended was before 1980, that is prior to the advent of the Father of Racism. Knowing Sharizat, who is quite liberal and tolerant, she would be an unlikely supporter of the hatred that is currently being spewed by BTN.
What BTN is spewing now is similar to what Hitler and the Nazis did in the 1930s where the superiority of the Aryan race and the hatred of the Jews was emphasised. It is shocking that such venom is still being spewed in tha 21st. century. I too went for the course and just like you, i came up convinced too...very convinced that all the talks about UMNO being nothing but a coward and hypocrite are so true.
Coward in the sense, they are doing all these behind the curtains and in the name of keeping the unity. Hypocrite is that out there they claim to propagate 1Malaysia, but behind the door they are actually referring to 1UMNO as being the only 1 who can save the nation, without the help of its BN partners.
Please lah Shahrizat...i did go to such course ok, twice, when i started the service and when i served my 11th year. They still talked about Anwar, PAS, DAP and the chinese in general ok.
Like i said earlier in this forum, i dont mind hearing the govt saying yes we will look into it or even we have been looking into much ealier than you ever realize it ok. But to simply DENY everything and claim EVERYONE who went like it...now that's far too much la. FAR FAR TOO MUCH.

My niece was forced to attend BTN after clinching a place in UM in 2002. She felt so disgusted and humiliated during the course having to swallow all the racist comments. Half way through the course, she protested and was told by the facilitator that all "pendatang" like her should be grateful to be allowed to be in Malaysia. My niece left UM the next day and took a papa-mama scholarship(EPF) to study at Taylors College. She's now is Singapore contributing to the economy of Singapore. She just took a PR early this year. And over here, our PM is talking about asking overseas Malaysian to come back.......all RUBBISH.

These UMNO elites live a Western life by and large.Their children go to the international schools in Malaysia and later go overseas to US and Europe to study and enjoy a very western lifestyle. They then come back and set up businesses which caters for all the tourists and rich Malaysians who of course are mainly non Malays. In this lifestyles that they live in , of course they are not racist becuase they need the money from the non Malays. But when it comes to securing their votes to secure their position in UMNO and Government, they shout and scream Ketuanan Melayu and BTN their most valuable tool. In this lifestyles that they live in , of course they are not racist becuase they need the money from the non Malays. But when it comes to securing their votes to secure their position in UMNO and Government, they shout and scream Ketuanan Melayu and BTN their most valuable tool. The naive and silly ones are those who go through the BTN and come out converted as Patriots. Sadly these patriots are the ones that gets cheated and eventually find that all that its worth is probably a class F contract with JKR or some low level job in the civil service.

faizal, get ur facts right. BTN courses are not ONLY open to govt servants & scholars of ONE race. It is also open to the private sector. You only need to apply.

Saya pernah menghadiri kursus BTN pada tahun 2004. Bahagian yang baik dan membina cuma latihan fizikal dan senaman yang diketuai oleh askar/ ex-askar.
Bahagian yang lain-lain memang patut disingkirkan kerana berbau perkauman. Kasihan betul peserta india dan cina yang menghadiri kerana terpaksa mendengar ceramah yang tidak memihak kepada mereka langsung. BTN satu propaganda yang akan membayahayakan perpaduan antara kaum. Harus dimansuhkan.

If BTN is open to the public for all Malaysians including NGO and opposition parties, the comments will be more accurate from all anglesand not just UMNO members. To talk of unity among all races, there is no substitute or indoctrination will brainwash the people unless equal treatment and equal opportunies are seen in all Malaysians mental attitude. The agenda and the bottom line tells it all what is BTN iall about.

Shahrizat Abdul Jalil claims those who have attended the BTN course loved it. Judging from what has been written here her claim is wrong. Judging from the action of those who had attended and have the conscience and good judgment now to come out and speak against the detriments this course is doing to the nation it shows she is speaking nonsense!
