Businessman survives gun attack

BUTTERWORTH, Dec 19 – A man survived depite being shot at several times in front of his house at Lorong Tampoi 5, Taman Tampoi here today.

In the 10am incident, the victim, a businessman in his 30s, sustained minor injuries when a bullet hit his right thigh.

Seberang Prai Tengah police chief ACP Dr Mohamad Shah Hussain Shah said the incident happened after a couple went to the victim’s house in a car before an argument occurred among them.

He said the male suspect then whipped out an automatic pistol and fired four shots, one of which hit the victim in his right thigh.

“The two suspects, believed to be in their 40s, then fled the scene in their car,” he said when contacted here today.

Police believe the shooting could have been because of business rivalry but did not rule out the involvement of loan sharks as the two suspects had brought along green paint to the victim’s house.

Mohamed Shah said police found three spent shells at the scene.

“The case has been classified as attempted murder and is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code,” he said. He also urged members of the public with information on the incident to contact the police. – Bernama
