Overturned lorry brings Federal Highway to standstill

September 16, 2012

KLANG, Sept 16 — There was a massive three-hour traffic jam on the Federal Highway between the Kota Bridge and Sungai Rasau Toll Plaza here today, after a lorry laden with canned drinks overturned onto a car in front of the toll plaza.

The drivers of the lorry and the car involved walked away unharmed from the accident.

Describing the 12.15pm accident, the lorry driver, who wished to be known only as Kunyamboo, said he was alone at the time and was changing lanes slowly to stop at the middle of the toll plaza area after realising the lorry’s brakes were not functioning.

“Suddenly, a car driven by a teenager shot into my path and I lost control of my vehicle and overturned onto the rear of the car, causing it to be badly damaged,” he told reporters at the scene.

The congestion was made worse when people stopped to collect the hundreds of canned drinks scattered along the road.

A tow truck was later seen moving the lorry.

A police spokesman confirmed receiving a report on the accident when contacted by Bernama. — Bernama
