Teenager to stand trial for murder of four in family
SIBU, Sept 14 — The magistrate’s court here today allowed an application by a deputy public prosecutor for a 17-year-old boy to stand trial in the High Court on four tentative murder and one tentative attempted murder charges.
Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi allowed the application made by DPP Mohd. Azrul Faidz Abdul Razak.
The teenager faces four tentative murder charges under section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence and one under section 307 for attempted murder which provides for a jail term of not more than 20 years, upon conviction.
The first murder charge is of killing 76-year-old grandmother Leong Nyuk Lan using a hammer between 6am and 7.30am on January 3 this year at a house in Lane 13/B1, RTM Road here.
The second charge is of killing Leong’s son, Ling Tong Hock, 36, a businessman, at the same place and time and using the same weapon.
The teenager faces two other charges of killing Ling’s 10-year-old son, David Ling Chei Qi, and seven-year-old daughter Amy Ling Zi Jiun at the same place and time and using the same weapon.
The fifth charge, under section 307 of the Penal Code, is for the attempted murder of Ling’s second son, eight-year-old Kevin Ling Chei You, who was seriously injured in the attack but managed to survive.
The businessman’s Chinese national wife Li Xiao Lan, 28, managed to escape by climbing out a bedroom window on the first floor to a neighbour’s house.
The teenager, who worked as a lorry attendant, was arrested on January 5 together with his 44-year-old mother.
The teenager, who was sent for a month of observation at a mental hospital in Kuching as part of the investigation, is the victims’ neighbour. — Bernama
