JULY 1 – Just a week shy of sixteen months from Election 2008, there are some who are still delusional or perhaps in denial about the popularity of their own party, their cause and, possibly, themselves.
Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin is one of them.
Today, he praised PAS Youth for their “courage” to have intellectual discussions with Umno Youth about Islam and Malays while accusing PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang of being manipulated by his Pakatan Rakyat partners for attacking the Malay nationalist party.
“I have been told that Hadi only talked for five minutes last night, I think he felt he was forced to make that statement. Tuan Guru Haji Hadi usually gives speeches for hours but only spoke for five minutes last night.
“It seems that he was forced ... forced to act, forced to attack Umno to show that Pakatan Rakyat is united and Nasharuddin Mat Isa was not even present,” the Rembau MP said today.
Funny that one should think Hadi was forced to attack Umno.
One would think it is in his nature to criticise, castigate and condemn Umno for all its flaws, defects and ills over the years. Recall if you will his infamous “Amanat Hadi” made on April 7, 1981 that said;
“Saudara-saudara sekalian!
Percayalah, kita menentang Umno bukan kerana nama dia Umno. Kita menentang Barisan Nasional (BN) bukan kerana nama dia BN. Kita menentang dia kerana dia menegakkan perlembagaan penjajah, mengekalkan peraturan kafir.
Of course, the National Fatwa Council decreed in February 1986 that Hadi’s declaration was against Islam and Islamic principles.
But Hadi has remained defiant. The years might have greyed his whiskers but has yet to mellow the Islamist who remains consistent in his beliefs about Umno, with whom he had rejected a unity government in the days after Barisan Nasional’s electoral debacle last March 2008.
His latest idea for unity government talks with Umno has been seized upon as proof of his becoming friendlier to his political enemy but is actually his way of ensuring his party is more prominent than its allies within the Pakatan Rakyat.
But Khairy, who has alternately spoken about going beyond race-based politics and upholding Malay superiority in the past few years, has been anything but consistent in his beliefs.
Who can forget his “The internal split within Umno will weaken the party’s position and this will pave way for the Chinese Malaysians to make various demands to benefit their community …”, as quoted by Sin Chew Daily in August 2006?
Today, Khairy continues to push for unity with PAS, which has been the party line since Election 2008 as part of former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s efforts to drive a wedge between the Islamist party and its more secular allies.
He is in denial that PAS does not want to do anything with Umno, despite both being Malay-based political parties. He is delusional that PAS is looking forward to a date, and possible alliance, with Umno.
Malaysians who want change from such race-based parties cannot have faith or believe that Khairy is the agent of change for a better Malaysia.
For politicians like him always believe that non-Malays must always kow-tow to the Malays. And not vice-versa.
That appears to be Khairy's argument, Hadi is a lackey because he accepts and agrees with PKR and DAP’s position that the conservative cleric-led party must disengage from unity talks.
His statements today, lauding intellectual discussions on one hand and condemning Hadi as a political puppet on the other, says more about the political chameleon that Khairy is more than anything else. And adds to the general distrust towards Umno politicians.

To liken Khairy to a "chameleon" is a misnomer, doing injustice to the real adorable chameleon.
He does not deserve the comparison, and does not, in any way, come close to the innate beauty, vulnerability and innocence of the real chameleon! Discerning animal lovers would defend and attest to that!
Khairy seems more like the devil in disguise, or the devil-incarnate.
If he has any respect and consideration at all for ALL MALAYSIANS, regardless of ethnicity and religious affiliations, he would have been consistently respectful of them. But, was he?
The fact that he vacillates between condemning and showering support for those DIFFERENT from his own kind, in terms of political ideology, intellectual capacity, colour of skin, religious belief, etc., etc., shows his TRUE COLOURS.
What is he, if not the devil himself? For it is the devil who only takes care of his own interest and kind and inclined to condemn those who are different from what he represents, and even go for their jugular!
To him, U M-ust NO-t be different from him and the likes of him. There must not be any form of dissent, or difference of opinion, or disagreement with his lot.
You must obey and kow tow to his supremacy. You are only second best, even if you are obviously better and smarter. Thou shall not show your superiority and demand that your interest be also taken care of. Only theirs count.
Khairy being delusional and in denial? Think again.
Perhaps he is worse, and perhaps even worst! Period.
