APRIL 15 –
Dear Yang Berhormat,
You do not know me although I know about you, since you are such a famous person.
I am just one of the millions of voters in this country we call our home. I am one of those who have voted regularly and, through this process of voting, selected our representatives to form the government.
You are one of the representatives elected by the people , even though the votes are secret and you would not know how each and every one of us voted.
You won because majority of the people in your area voted for you, and your party won the majority of the seats in Parliament, which is the place where all the representatives elected by people like me meet to think how to govern this country on our behalf.
Although you owe your position, your trappings of power and your wealth to our votes, you do not need to be grateful to us.
We do not ask you to be grateful to us. We just want you to do the job – the one that you wanted and asked for, and that we have given you – well.
Just like in a company, if a CEO and his team can do a good job and earn good dividends for shareholders, the shareholders will be happy and reward the team with another extension of tenure.
But, when the management team is not functioning well, and the company prospects are affected, the shareholders have the right to choose another team to replace the team.
The situation is the same here. We voted you and your team to power so that you can carry out projects and policies that benefit all of us.
It is our right, as your ultimate boss, to have schools built, and hospitals that are well manned, and roads well paved, and drains that flow.
It is our right to have protection against harm provided by the security forces which are funded by us.
It is our right to earn a decent living by having licences given to us by the very people that we put in place in the first instance.
It is our right to have a well-run civil service, since the civil servants are our employees, so to speak.
So, as the ultimate boss, we expect development; we expect progress. These development and progress must be continuous and should not be on an ad hoc basis.
Projects paid for with money taxed from us should not be used by your team as gifts to buy our votes or withheld as blackmail during elections, by or general.
As the ultimate boss, it is our right to throw out of office any representative who is not heeding the wishes of the people, who is not functioning well, and who is on the take. This is our right as citizens.
And please do not say we are not grateful if we did not vote you, since to function well is part of your job description, and you have to fulfil your job description in order for us to vote you in again, and not through using projects to exchange for our votes.
If you are too busy to remember all that I have written, just remember one thing.
The people – and I am one of them – are the real Boss. Your Boss.
Thank you for your precious time.
Hsu
(A boss)

Well said! It's pristine clear. Hope our YB Employees especially those from the "1Malaysia" team will take heed to remember this and put a stop to their ever patronising behaviour. Infact, they should be grateful to us for putting them in power for more than half a century and not demand the other way round.
Regards,
Another Boss

The newly minted DPM & EM has no clue about his ascension to power is solely and only by the Rakyat's vote. Note his arrogance fueled by pride; ignorance fueled by being out of touch & objectiveness blinded by power he holds.
These dinosaurs will never learn at all judging from the racist rhetorics they spewed to increase hate & tension among the Malaysians.

You really need to have some sense knock into your system. If this does not get into your head, and if you try again to use taxpayers' money to bait for votes and blame others for your stupidity, then be prepared to get kick out during the next GE.

We would very much love to see the country to be running like a MNC, but having a second thought, if it does run like a MNC, the entire "management" will be chop off as none of them are capable. They are still living in the "mom and pops" shop era.
Please keep your articles coming, boss.

Dr Hsu is right on target. You are the right person to be our MP or ADUN. If you are a specialist, train a few Dr in your field and then move on to 'add value' to our nation. Put yourself in either BN or PR for GE13. You are the exact type of people to lead our country. The fact is that there are many who should not be in our Parliment or State Assembly and it is not funny. It is time for Malaysia to establish a selection process to weed out and to prepare our candidates for the ruling and the shadow coalition. The selection process could be more than five years. As an example, if Dr Hsu is in the selection pool and if he is not up to the mark, then Dr Hsu will not be nominated for the next election. Only the genuine candidates and those that can do the job will be selected.
Most Malaysians would like to see the day that our MPs and ADUNs will just do their job and nothing else and it is certainly not for any other reasons or motives. Our generation was well prepared and provided for by the wonderful people of Malaysia. What Malays, Chinese or Indians? We do have the people to participate in a real Malaysian system that is fair and square, just like the little boys and girls that participated in the playfields fourty years ago.

When the ruling government disbursed the money collected from the taxpayers (the rakyat) for development project, the question of the rakyat to be grateful to the government does not arise. How can a servant question his/her master of whether the master is being grateful to him/her when the master has given the servant the money for safe-keeping??
I guess the Servant has dominant over his/her Master when he/she is expected to carry out his/her duty and responsibility in the best possible way. This Servant should be send back to school to learn the good virtue of Humility and Gratefulness.

We, the Rakyat become their maids
The YBs drive BMWs, Ferraris, Lamborghinis.
We, the Rakyat drive the pathetic Protons!!
The YBs fly first-class go skiing, Disneyland, stay in 6-star hotels.
We, the Rakyat get stuck in stupid jams everyday, cari makan to survive!!
Still every Ringgit Malaysia we save hard, the value forever keeps going down the longkang!!
Please, I beg all MALAYSIANS, united we stand, divided we fall. Only we, the Rakyat can do something for ourselves - vote BN Rakyat-Money-Sucker pests OUT of this beloved country!!! Only then we and our coming generations can enjoy and live life happily and in harmony in Malaysia.

The government in fact has no money, all money is accrued from the tax payers. The fact is BN/UMNO still does not get it. People are no longer so naive anymore, least in the internet age. He says BN/UMNO is a coalition of multiple races, but still plays the race cards. He can't accept the fact the new generation of voters have decided to choose someone else. Despite being voted with the biggest majority in 2004 in Malaysian history, BN/UMNO was given the mandate to change, but they changed for the worse.
He cannot accept that the voters no longer accept things as they are and they will have brought their own downfall come GE13.

An exception almost everyone is familiar with would be Lee Lam Thye who always went all out and became the best ever. I however came across another individual who was the MP for Kemaman when the the opposition won Terengganu in '99. He was a fairly successful businessman before contesting the seat. During his tenure, he was back in his constituency practically every weekend with droves of people coming to seek his assistance, mostly financially. Being from the opposition with no funds at his disposal, at the end of his term, he was left with only a car and a house in KL. Having sold off everything else he owned just to fulfill his "obligation" to those who had voted him in. Sadly, he only lasted one term as compared to many other YB's accumulating wealth while in office.

Actually I am also a medical doctor who was trained to look at things the way we were tought in the varsity caring for lives and living things. After many years of medical practice I thought it would be good expanding and applying my experience and expertise to a more wider form in the community and so I decided to enter politics. As I was practicing in the rural area there were many things around me that needs to be taken care of especially those basic necessity ie utilities ,infrastructure, education ,security etc.
To cut the story short I was selected to stand in the general election and won with a resounding 93% popular vote. This was when all the political squabbling, back stabbing, arm twisting and all those things that politician called 'sepak terajang' started that I have to face on a daily basis.
I kept to my principal that the rakyat comes first and kept focused on my duty as an elected representative .
My political opponents consists not only from the opposition party but also from within my own party members whom were trying to oust me from my position.Even that does no deter me from my duties and at the end of my term my report book from the various resources says that I've kept my KPI at 90%.Throughout these predicament I naively put politicking second place to my duties.
Comes the 12GE I was told to get things prepared but to my amazement my name was not listed as a candidate for reasons oblivious to me.
I do not hold any grudge to anyone but feel sad that at the end of the day the rakyat were the one at the losing end due to massive politicking.
The moral of the story I am trying to put forth here is that politics is not as simple and straight forward as many people ie the rakyat wants them to be.
I only pray that one day Malaysia will be ruled by sincere, hardworking, clear minded, visionary and most important uncorrupted politicians before I close my eyes for good and leave the fate of my future generations in their hands.

Together all of us being tax payers and voters, the message is loud and clear to all our DUN's and YBs!
Wake up and we cannot tolerate under performers be it BN or Pakatan!
There should be more capable and more good men i.e. independent YBs or 3rd alternative Voices like Britains Liberals, Australian Democrats or Germans Green Party.

l hope to read more articles from you and good job Dr.

I understand your trend of thought and idea and in principle you are right. Those in public service serve the rakyat and govern the country for the good of the nation as a whole. They are like you said the General Managers and we are the Board of Directors, the stakeholders.
I caution against the use of the boss analogy simply because if you spend anytime on the ground, you will understand what the ADUNs go through. Members of the rakyat, acting like bosses instruct ADUNs to do this and do that and threaten like they owe them a big favour. You may say, thats part of the job and who in the first place ask them to run for office?
Let me tell you as one who who was involved in an opposition party prior to March 8th 2008. Let me remind the many what the sentiments were like. Whenever there was any call for support or anything to do with the opposition, most would run away like the opposition were lepers. Few were willing to sacrifice. Many lived in fear, tremndous fear. There was blatant injustice then as there is now, corruption, daylight robbery from our coffers but as long as there were rice on the table, many closed an eye or even both eyes.
The opposition workers were many who had nothing to lose. Either they were young and idealistic or old and poor and not much to lose from the gestapo. The leaders and public servants today are from this pool of people who join the opposition parties then. They are the ones with guts, far sighted and visionary. They are prepared to face the consequences of BNs gestapo. Many are young and adapt well to the new politics.
So I hope that many will understand that these YBs serve the country and have sacrificed much. We are stakeholders and should support them rather than laud it over them. We appreciate those who work feverishly for the good of the rakyat because we are not willing to stand in the gap as they have done. We will kick out those who are self serving as we have seen many of these in the last 50 years.
So, Dr Hsu, perhaps a better analogy is stakeholders in a company and not bosses.

May this comment find you in the best of health.
I read your article, "To YB, from your Boss", with full understanding, commitment and appreciation. How much i would have hoped that we malaysians voted our reps. based on what dr. had mention, and how much more i would have hoped all the elected reps behaved and caried out the tasks and trusts entrusted to them by the people/malaysians?
The past 51 years we had suffered all forms of discrminations, intolerances, oppression, subjugation, obscurantism and lot more sufferings. We witnessed daily how corrupted leaders usurp their powers for personal and selfish ends. Laws enacted to further protect these powerful leaders.
These must be rectified and remedied. Having been sent by the Bkt Gantang voters to the Parliament, i certainly intend and struggle hard with all my other Pakatan Rakyat MPs towards achieving and fulfilling all the aspirations and resposibilities dr . pointed up above.
We need your continuous support!
Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
YAB DS MB Nizar

The public needs to remember that BN (as in neighbouring countries' long-ruling governments) still has a lot of tools and methods up their sleeves to turn the table around in their favour without conceding much. So keep pushing and demanding within the nation's legal framework until the constitution got changed unfavourably or laws are passed prohibiting public freedom of expression. Or capable, rational opposition candidates are "invited" under the ISA to spend time explain themselves. Nearly all Asean countries do not have checks and balances like UK and USA to ensure such occurrences are minimal. So be prepared! Good luck.

its their right to use the country resources as they wish
because THEY WON the election
and they are the government.
Just look at the other things they do,
Award contracts to BN linked companies
Give land to BN parties
Give concessions to BN link companies that use this as a license to extort money from the RAKYAT
Skim off the government purchases
Spend the RAKYAT money on holidays and expensive cars and gifts
Distribute money to party leaders
I mean the list go on and on ...... the corruption is so blatant, it is like spitting in your face after taking your money.
Unfortunately Malaysia still have a population full of naive or maybe even corrupt accomplices who still support these tyrants. What is even worse is we have a biased judiciary, a biased police force, oppressive laws, and a biased election commission, we have a problem changing the government even if the majority wanted to.
For the DAP, PAS and PKR politicians, I salute you guys for your courage and persistence.
On my part, I criticize and condemn the BN government corrupt acts and arrogance whenever I see any of my friends. None of them ever admits they are BN members. In fact, among my peers and friends its a disgrace to be associated with BN.
Anyone associated with BN ought to be a ashamed of themselves.

But it should not stop here. What is the point of being a boss when those appointed by us are not doing a good job and not doing what we want them to do but at the end of the day we do not have the courage to remove them.
What is the point of having such say when we do not act appropriately.
So dont just talk and talk. Make sure all Malaysians walk the talk.
This means if this government is still corrupted, did not reform the judiciary, anti-corruption, police and education as we want them to do within this term, we MUST vote them out.
Also make sure we throw our those politicians regardless of whether they are from government or opposition who are racist or corrupted. Retire them from politic for good and send a strong message to all other politicians so that they will never dare to be corrupted and racist again.

(by hook or by crook), a bargaining power (when there is a margin call at the politcal arena).
Some politicians are serious with works. Most are opportunists & start to talk about getting contracts
for their own companies or proxies.
If this country is Japan, Taiwan or S.Korea, a lot of these Malaysian politicians are HISTORY.

What a better way to say it.
