JAKARTA, Sept 23 — The US Embassy has launched a YouTube channel which plays more than 100 short videos on various topics about Indonesia, such as on the culture, community, education, religious activities, politics, tourism, or English language education.
Clips of these videos can be accessed at www.youtube.com/pasjakartaindonesia, which are presented in the Indonesian language or provided with Indonesian subtitles.
The US Embassy initially used the video-sharing site last year to send videos giving their best wishes on Idul Fitri day. In the same year, it also posted instructions to join the Diversity Visa Lottery, which had been accessed by thousands of interested people.
Based on the Embassy’s release, the launch of the Indonesian-version of Youtube is aimed at utilizing the technology to carry out US diplomatic agenda in Indonesia.
The US Embassy has also became the first diplomatic mission in Indonesia that have a fan page at www.facebook.com/jakarta.usembassy, with more than 8,500 registered fans.?Last year the US Embassy sponsored the second Blogger Party involving 1,000 participants. This year, it will again sponsor the 2009 Blogger Party in Jakarta on October 24.
The US Embassy also sponsors many workshops to cooperate with local and national blogging communities help teach the techniques and ethics in creating a blog, and to become responsible citizen journalists. — Tempo Interactive
